Hey buddy, I am going to give you hell.

He tore his gaze away and directed his attention toward the table. “Would you like to take a seat and we can go over the contract? Did you have any final questions?”

Chloe settled into a chair across the table from where Jordan resumed his seat. She didn’t want to be anywhere near him if she could help it. Sitting on the other side of the table next to Nancy gave her a sense of power. Jordan was the interloper in her home, and she was going to make sure he not only sensed that he wasn’t welcome, but that he damn well knew it.

The Chloe Fisher who Jordan had known was no longer. In her place was a woman who knew every clause of the Vegas contract and had even memorized the payment schedule at the back. These days, she checked her bank account and credit card balances every morning, without fail. Even the regular emails from her accountant noting which bills were to be paid and when, were given due attention. Chloe knew the value of this deal right down to the very last cent. And she was going to make sure she collected everything which was due to her.

She was still deeply embarrassed that she’d been forced to reset all her personal bank account passwords. Marta and Gabriela had been handling Chloe’s money on a day-to-day basis. And from what she had discovered, it was clear her two former assistants had treated her money as their own.

“I have read the contract thoroughly, so I don’t have any final questions regarding the terms. But once I sign here today, I will be expecting to see the first payment in my company account by close of business tomorrow. Rest assured, Jordan, I will be making certain that Royal Resorts sticks to both the spirit and the letter of the contract.”

Under the table, Chloe curled her toes up in her Nike sneakers. She had practiced that last line in the mirror a little while earlier and was proud that she had managed to say it in a calm, even voice.

A rosy blush appeared on his cheeks. He hadn’t been expecting her to be so forthright. So blunt.

Nancy, god bless her, took up the chorus. “Yes, we want to make things very clear. Your father negotiated this deal, but we expect you to fulfil it. That includes personally guaranteeing that my client gets everything she needs. And that starts from today, until Chloe’s very last performance at Royal Resorts Las Vegas.”

There was a familiar clench in the lower of Chloe’s belly. There had once been a time where Jordan had given her everything she needed. Almost. He never said the L word.

And despite where their connection now stood, the past couldn’t be undone. They were still linked.

Some nights she rolled over in bed and could have sworn the scent of his cologne still lingered on her sheets. Or was it her skin?

“Very good. I understand. Are we all ready to get started on signing the various sections and copies of the contract?” replied Jordan. His voice was steady, but he wouldn’t meet Chloe’s eye.

You should be afraid, I’m not going to make your life the least bit easy while we are in Vegas. There is going to be some serious payback, buddy.

“Yes, I am, thank you. After that we can look to discuss the launch announcement in Las Vegas. I know Nancy and Edward agreed it would be next week, but I’ve decided it should be pushed back. I trust that won’t be a problem, Jordan.”

The pop diva routine wasn’t normally her vibe, but for Jordan, for the man who had broken her heart, Chloe was willing to make an exception. By the time she stood on the stage at the Royal Resorts Platinum Collection Resort in Las Vegas, Mister Jordan Royal would know exactly who was in charge.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-SEVEN

The writing was on the wall. Chloe was going to make his life utter misery. His worst fears were about to come true. He had walked out on her, and she was determined to make him pay.

They may have been seated mere feet away from one another, but their relationship was a million miles from what it had once been. Jordan had to stop reminding himself that this was the same woman who he’d spent night after night making love to in this very house.

He had to forget that she had once been his.

That’s a lie and you know it. She could have been mine, but I threw our chance at happiness away. I will always regret not introducing her to my family. I should have made her a priority in my life.

His mind continued to drift. This house was a constant source of triggered memories. Even when he tore his gaze away from the papers in front of him, all he could see was the garden. The lounger where he’d laid her down and sunk his cock deep into her body. Of Chloe’s soft cries of ‘Jordan’ as she’d reached climax.

And their silly, foolish giggles when the noise had disturbed the neighbor’s dog and they’d had to make a naked dash back inside the house.

The disastrous launch of the Laguna Beach resort was going to be a picnic compared to the next eight months of his life.

And yet he was secretly proud of her.

She was giving him the exact amount of punishment he deserved. He’d not stopped to fight for their love. He’d let her down by not staying for the album launch. Had refused to come to the awards ceremony. Kept their relationship a secret from the entire world including his family. All because he was too afraid to be a man and own her love.

Any wonder she moved on with Zippo. Or whatever his name was.

The thought of the guy who had replaced him had Jordan letting out a slow, nervous breath. The new boyfriend hadn’t lasted but what if Chloe had some other douche now in her life? If she brought a boyfriend to Vegas, he didn’t know what he would do.

Okay. Okay. Get your head out of your ass and be a grown up. Talk to her.

“So, for the Vegas shows, will you be travelling back and forth at the end of each weekend, Chloe? I mean I’m assuming you will coming home here between shows.”
