They stayed that way, interlaced and climbing over fallen tree limbs and boulders until they reached a small clearing. The moon was coming out, and the sun was gone. It made the small copse shine like a jewel.

“This is beautiful,” she gasped.

Nero smiled at her. “This is my favorite place in the whole world. Best naps of my life were taken right there.” He pointed toward a patch of long grass.

“As a wolf or as a man?”

“Both.” He laughed.

“Why did you bring me here?”

He shrugged. “You looked really sad out there, rocking in that chair.”

“Were you spying on me?”

“A bit,” he admitted.

“Why?”

“Because I don’t think your sister is really herself right now, and I just had a feeling you might need a friend.”

“Is that what we are? Friends?” She was scared to ask. Scared he would say yes, and scared he would say no, too. Could she handle being friends with him?

“Well, aren’t we?” he asked with a small chuckle. “We’ve been on one hell of an adventure, plus …”

She pressed the palm of her hand to his mouth. “I swear to god, if you say that we’ve seen each other naked, I’m going to scream.”And maybe pass out with longing.

Humor danced in his eyes, but it was the kiss he delivered to her palm pressed against his mouth that made her gasp and step away.Had he just done that? Was she losing her mind? Her knees shook too much for her to back up more than a couple of feet.

“Not what I was going to say.” His voice was low and rough, as if he was having a hard time keeping his cool.

“Oh. What were you going to say?”

He grinned and stepped closer to her. “Are you sure you want to know?”

No. “Yes?” If her heart beat any faster, she was going to die.

Another grin and another step closer. “You don’t sound sure.”

She wasn’t. Not when he looked at her like that. “I am.”

“Valentine,” he whispered. “I’m going to kiss you.”

“You are? Why?”

“Because ever since the first kiss we shared, I’ve thought of nothing else but kissing you right here. In my favorite place.”

What kind of woman … even a Half-Blood … could resist a line like that?

“Oh,” she gasped softly.

Nero closed the narrow distance between them and placed his hands on her hips. “Oh? That’s all you have to say?”

“Can’t really talk when you’re kissing me.”

“I’m not kissing you yet.”

And then hewaskissing her.
