She met his eyes, and she nipped his lower lips. It was animalistic.

Nero loved it.

His eyes widened, and he dove for her mouth. As they kissed, his clothes vanished, then hers. With more finesse than she would have thought possible, he laid her on the pile of clothes. Their bodies lined up perfectly as he lay on top of her.

His erection pressed against her stomach, the skin soft and hot. He met her gaze. “Yes?”

She nodded.

“I want to hear you say it,” he said, taking one of her nipples into her mouth.

Valentine arched against him. “Yes, yes. Nero, I want you.”

He positioned himself against her. Her moist heat was ready for him. He pressed against her core, rubbing the head of his erection along her sensitive clit. She shivered in delight, and he took this moment to slide inside her. Gently. Only an inch. His jaw ticked with the restraint. Another inch, another groan. “Fuck, Valentine.”

“Yes,” she moaned.

He sank deep inside her, bottoming out. He stilled, his breathing ragged. His eyes caught hers, and his cheeks were flushed with emotion. “Are you … Is it … Can I …”

She answered his question by moving against him. The movement made them both moan. He gripped her hips and started a smooth rhythm. Valentine was full and hot as Nero drove into her. Her core quivered every time he hit a spot deep inside. She was breathless. Wordless. It was too good.

So good, she forgot where they were.

All that mattered was Nero moving inside her, taking her closer to the edge. The tension built by Nero’s movements coiled and exploded, sending her into oblivion. Valentine’s limbs glowed and pulsated in pure bliss.

Nero’s own release came seconds later. He emptied himself inside her as he groaned her name. He tightened his grip on her hips and didn’t let go. They stayed intertwined and connected as they let their breathing settle. He kissed her neck and nuzzled and nibbled at the tender flesh before nipping at her.

She shivered in delight and ran her fingers through his hair. He kissed her shoulder and whispered, “I’ve gotta tell you something.”

Valentine thought there was nothing he could say to ruin this moment. It was too good. Too perfect.

Later, she would kick herself for being so naive.

TWENTY-ONE

NERO

Nero kissed Valentine’s shoulder as he held her in his arms. He didn’t want to let her go. He never wanted this moment to end. He would gladly stay right there forever with her, but now that they’d been intimate, he knew he had to tell her.

He had to come clean and be honest.

What would be the worst that could happen?

If Valentine had slept with him in the middle of his favorite place in the whole world, surely she wouldn’t have been shocked at his news.

Yet something in the back of his mind told him he should wait. Val wasn’t exactly fragile but sensitive. Guarded.

A part of him wondered the exact opposite. Maybe heshouldtell herbecauseshe was so sweet. If he didn’t tell her soon, she would be livid that she hadn’t known what she was to him.

Nero sighed and laid his forehead against hers. “I’ve gotta tell you something.”

She met his eyes, glaring a bit already. God. She was so damn beautiful. Even when she looked at him suspiciously. “If you’re about to tell me you’ve got a wife somewhere, I’m going to be so pissed at you.”

He chuckled despite himself. “No. Not a wife. I’m as single as a wolf can be.”

“Okay,” she edged. “Then what is it?”

“Valentine, you’re my mate.”
