“Yet,” Nero added.

She turned her glare toward him, but he only found it adorable. “Let’s go. We have vamps to chase away.”

There was a gleam in Valentine’s eyes. One that made it obvious there was no talking her out of fighting the vampires. Nero would just have to do his best not to dieandprotect his mate.

* * *

The driveto the Longborn estate was quiet. From her seat on the passenger side, Val kept turning back to eye Lilliane. The youngest Longborn sister quietly looked out of the window without saying a word. Nero wondered what was going on in her head.

Was she afraid? Did she resent her sisters and their wolf mates?

Could she be trusted?

Nero didn’t know. He also didn’t completely understand why Lilliane had agreed to this plan. Maybe she was trying to redeem herself with Celestine and Valentine.

Anything was possible.

Nero pulled to the side of the road and parked the truck nearlyinthe bush. They did the best they could, using fallen tree limbs and foliage to hide the vehicle. If the vamps drove by, they wouldn’t spot the truck, giving Nero and his people the much-needed element of surprise.

The wolves simply wouldn’t let the vamps sneak up on them.

The wolves were going to attack.

“You know what to do?” Valentine asked her sister.

“Yup,” Lilliane snapped. “It’s not like we haven’t gone over this plan a thousand times in the last twenty-four hours.” She rolled her eyes and slipped off her sweatshirt.

“And you’re sure this dress is what you should be wearing?” Val pressed, crossing her arms.

Lilliane pulled at the hem of the stark red dress. It barely covered her thighs because it was so short. “You need to trust me.”

Nero wouldn’t point out that it was hard for them to trust a woman who had left voluntarily with the vampire council.

Lilliane rolled her shoulders back and started toward the estate. Nero and Valentine joined the other wolves … including ReeceandCelestine … who were arriving. Atlas and his pack wouldn’t be sneaking up toward the estate with the Greenlee wolves. They had a different task.

Nero and the others watched as Lilliane walked right up to the front door and knocked.

It took a while, but the door soon opened, but by whom, they didn’t know. They were too far away for that.

It didn’t matter.

This was their cue.

The wolves and the two Half-Blood sisters ran toward the front door and rushed it. Seeing as how it was hours before sundown, the vamps were completely taken by surprise. Most were in their beds, sleeping. Each pair of wolves was charged with guarding a bedroom where a vamp slumbered. This effectively trapped the vamps in their own beds. Their own coffins.

Nero and Val quickly found her father’s room. His long black robe made his pale face even whiter as he snapped his fangs at his daughter. “What have you done?”

“I want you to dissolve whatever deal Lilliane made with the vampires. Whoever thisLordis, he won’t get my sister. Do you hear me?”

Sylvester hissed. “I am a council member. You will address me as such. This attack will not go unpunished.”

“Vamps are no longer welcome here. Not in Longville, nor in Blackwood or GreenleeorSilvers.” Valentine hissed back.

“What are you going to do? Kill us all?” he chuckled. “We will just be replaced by other vampires. The council willalwaysexist.”

“Fine. Then give one of your daughters a seat on it so we can help you idiots make better decisions. The way you treat women …” She scoffed. “I had to find a bunch of wolves to be cared for. Think aboutthat.”

Nero’s chest puffed up with pride. At least he could be reassured that his mate had his back. Hell, could she beintohim?
