“Open the left door,” Lucas said.

Adam glanced at him quickly before he reached out to pull the door open. He gasped before darting forward.

With a chuckle, Lucas flicked on the overhead light.

The large walk-in closet was really too big for him to fill. On the right side of the closet, his clothes hung, but that left the entire left side and shelving units empty. Lucas really didn’t have enough clothing or shoes to fill up the large space. Inspiration had struck when he’d begun looking up things for both his boys. Nash’s favor of silk and lace had given Nash hours of fun as he looked at items he could buy. Adam had been different, harder to shop for since Lucas hadn’t gotten to see Adam’s little side.

Lucas was glad that he’d decided to go with his gut and picked up a few fun little items he’d wanted to try. The bottles, cups, plates, and other little things were up on the top shelf. The lower two shelves were filled with brand-new unopened toys.

“Do you like?” Lucas asked since Adam hadn’t said a word.

“That’s…that is—”

“The mega Masters of the Universe Castle Grayskull building set,” Lucas provided. “With He-Man and Skeletor action figures.”

Adam turned wide eyes up to him. “How’d you know?”

“I didn’t know anything, baby. I just saw this set and felt like it was something that you’d enjoy playing with.”

“When I was eight, I begged my mom for that set,” Adam said. “Even that young, I knew it wasn’t something that I would ever have. I prayed and prayed that somehow…” Adam shook his head. “I thought surely God would grant me that one wish.”

Lucas’s heart ached. Adam didn’t talk about his family or his past.

“When the pastor asked what I prayed for, I told him, I thought God had told him to ask me, instead that was the first time I was taken to the farm.”

He grabbed Adam and tugged him close and tight as Adam shook.

“I didn’t stop praying for that set though. Even after a month at the farm,” Adam said softly.

“Baby.” Lucas was at a loss what to say.

“I don’t…I don’t want to talk about it right now.” He grinned at Lucas. “I would have bought this for myself if I had any idea where I could have gotten it.

Lucas didn’t have the heart to inform his baby that it had been a simple one-click on Amazon. “I’m glad I picked right.”

Adam laughed. “You couldn’t have chosen better.” He hugged Lucas before stepping back. “Now I don’t want to go to work.”

“This gives you something to look forward to,” Lucas said. “I have an early appointment today, but I should be done by the time you're off. We can come up and you can play as Nash rests and I make dinner.”

“I can play tonight too?” Adam asked.

“Baby, you can play whenever you want,” he promised. Lucas would be damned if he didn’t make sure that promise was kept.

Chapter Nine

Nash

With a crutch under one armpit and Lucas’s arm around his waist, Nash slowly took the stairs that led from Lucas’s apartment into the break room of the tattoo shop. Just that small trip already had Nash sweating.

“Not much farther,” Lucas told him.

Nash clenched his jaw and nodded. This wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. He was a fucking cop, and this wasn’t the first time he’d gotten hurt. He didn’t need to be babied! Even if it had felt really nice to be woken up with soft kisses up his spine to the back of his neck. Nash had tried to entice Lucas to take things further, but he’d been denied. Which left Nash irritated.

“I think you’ll like the setup that Trick put together for you,” Lucas told him.

“Of course, I will. Trick is awesome,” Nash responded. He tried not to scowl too much but he bet Trick didn’t let Mac walk around with a hard-on.

Lucas snorted before pulling Nash to a stop.
