His eyes burned and Nash turned his face away. He didn’t get emotional. Even after being gifted with the words that he’d always wanted to hear.

He heard the stool scrape as Lucas rose, but Nash didn’t look in his direction. Couldn’t.

Lucas’s hand captured his chin and Nash was forced to lift his gaze. “You belong to us. To me and Adam. I don’t care what demons I have to fight, boy. I don’t mind if I have to fight you.”

The tears fell.

“I’m falling in love with you, Nash,” Lucas whispered. He kissed the tears from Nash’s cheeks.

Nash gasped before he buried his face in Lucas’s stomach and let himself cry. It had been so long since he’d given into the deep misery that consumed him. He just wanted to be enough for somebody. Nash wanted to be wanted for him.

“I got you, boy.” Lucas held Nash’s head close to his chest as Nash cleansed himself of everything that had been eating away at him. “I got you.”

Lucas

The tension between him and Nash was gone. Even with his boy resting on the couch, Lucas could tell the difference. He wasn’t disillusioned enough to think they’d solved everything in one afternoon, but Lucas felt good about the lines of worry that were missing from Nash’s forehead as he slept.

Returning to the living room, Lucas grinned at Adam.

After Adam had returned, late, from the shop, Nash had commandeered his lap as a pillow. At least Adam had been able to eat a bowl of chili and some more cornbread before Nash had fallen asleep.

“All done?” Lucas asked, approaching. He nodded to Adam’s empty bowl.

“Yeah. I would have cleaned up my mess but—” He waved his hand toward the sacked-out Nash.

“You are right where you’re supposed to be,” Lucas told him. He stole a kiss before grabbing the bowl and heading toward the kitchen.

They’d had just enough chili for dinner, but the big pot that Nash had made was already empty. The chili had been a hit with the staff of the coffee shop and even some of the customers that had hung around. All in all, it had been a decent afternoon. The flow into the shop had been constant, not giving the boys much time to socialize, but they’d all had a chance to eat and relax for a few minutes, thanks to Nash’s meal.

Lucas finished cleaning up the kitchen and turned off the light before returning to the living room. Adam was still in the same position as Nash was dozing on his lap.

“Can you extract yourself?” he asked.

“I can try.”

“Why don’t you put a pillow under his bed and meet me in the bedroom. I have a surprise for you.”

“A surprise in the bedroom?” Adam asked. “And Nash isn’t awake for it.”

“Not that kind of surprise, baby. After such a long day, I figured you’d like to relax.”

“I am relaxing.” Adam frowned.

“Daddy can help you relax better.”

Adam’s eyes widened. “You mean…?”

“Let Daddy help you change your clothes, and you can play for the rest of the evening.”

“Okay,” Adam whispered. His hands shook as he picked up a pillow.

“I’ll be waiting.” Lucas strolled out of the living room, heading for the master bedroom. By mutual agreement, they were all sleeping there, and Nash’s and Adam’s stuff had joined with his. He loved seeing his boys’ belongings mixed in with his.

He’d already placed the items that he hoped would make Adam smile on the bed.

Adam shuffled into the room but hesitated at the threshold.
