“Just us,” Sersha said. “This is professional, not personal.”

“You hit him!” She couldn’t contain her anger. “I don’t know why you—”

“What did you expect me to do, huh?” Her dad threw the door back into its frame. “Your brother know about this?”

“Yes,” she said.

“What did he say about it? Bet he swung for Jagg himself.”

“He’s still… processing.”

“Yeah, aren’t we all,” Strat said, folding his arms, widening his stance. “Jagger Dunn is not the type of man you want to be with.”

“You love Jagg!”

“Yes, but not for you.”

“What did he do wrong? What excuse do you have for violence? There’s no excuse!”

“It’s a language guys like us understand. He fucked our family.”

“No, he fucked me—”

“Okay,” Sersha said, sliding in front of Strat. “We’re not going to get bogged down in this. The family stuff can happen later. Everyone, professional, not personal.”

“What do you need, Scamp?” he grumbled, still frowning.

“Ludlow,” Sersha said.

On a blink of surprise, Strat’s attention fell to his friend. “Ludlow? Are you fucking kidding me?”

“No. I need to know where Ludlow is.”

“What she means is, I need to know where Ludlow is.”

“Didn’t we have this conversation? No. He’s dangerous.”

“Less dangerous than the other options,” Sersha said. “You don’t want Imogen near him? I’ll do the talking.”

“This is my story.”

Sersha raised her hands. “And my paws are off, but if it’s the only way your dad—”

“Why would you do it for Sersha and not for me?”

“He wants to protect you.”

“And he doesn’t want to protect you? Doesn’t that piss you off?”

“Sersha has protections in place,” her father said.

“And I don’t? What are you? Ford? Jagg?”

“Prevention is better than cure.”

“What is the problem?” Sersha went to the coffee. “Ludlow doesn’t breathe fire.”

“No, he just makes violent porn. Why wouldn’t I introduce him to my daughter?”
