“You might be surprised,” she said, laying down, resting her cheek on his chest. “What about you? I never paid much attention to your love life.”

“Pay attention now, ‘cause you’re it.”

“I’ll tell him.” Her eyes sank shut. “When we decide it’s time. I’ll tell Ford.”

“Probably better coming from both of us.”

“Yeah, but you’re afraid of him so—”

“Afraid?” He rolled them over, pinning her on her back, stifling her mouth with his. “Not a chance.”

Jagger Dunn. Hot? Yes. Capable? Yes. Smart? Funny? He checked boxes, and some part of her had always known that. Maybe she’d put him in the “never gonna happen” corner too. But this was it, it was happening. However it went down, there was no backing out now.

NINETEEN

“BABE, YOU’VE GOTTA GET UP.”

She didn’t want to move. With her face buried in his pillow, she wanted him there next to her. Except it felt like he was pulling away.

Satisfied and tired, slumber begged surrender. “It’s been a long few days.”

“I know,” he said, his lips warming her temple. “Ford’s on his way back.”

She sighed without opening her eyes. “Why do you have to live with my brother?”

“I’ve lived with your brother my whole life. One way or another.”

Which probably meant she wouldn’t get much alone time with Jagg when Ford learned of them.

“Okay,” she said, stretching and rolling over, still without opening her eyes. “I’m awake.”

Kind of. But what did the guy expect after ravishing her so thoroughly numerous times.

“I’ve gotta show you where to sleep.”

Yeah, because her brother would’ve expected his friend to do at least that. What else would they have been doing in the interim?

“That means I have to get dressed.”

Wandering around naked while Jagg’s other buddies and colleagues ambled in and out wouldn’t be on her brother’s list of house rules.

Jagg jumped out of bed and into his jeans. “Not something I’m proud of.”

“Being with me?”

“Asking a beautiful woman to get out of my bed.”

“I assume…” she said, sitting up, “that you own whatever bed you intend to put me in.”

“If I was getting into that bed with you,” he said, coming to raise her chin on a finger to kiss her, “this wouldn’t be so difficult.”

Already it was foreign to be leaving his bed and getting dressed. It had been so long since she’d started a relationship that she was more used to sharing her life with her lover than living her own separate one.

Heading for the door, Jagg caught her on the way, tucking her in front of him, the way he had at Hustle.

“I got it so wrong,” she teased, tipping her head back.

“Got what wrong, baby?”
