“You should see my fangs way better,” Duncan said, and when Heather turned to glare at him, he was gone.

Duncan had gone to the front of the vehicle. He reached down, grabbed the bumper from beneath the snow, and lifted.

“Wait, that’s too much…” Heather heard the pop and bang, and with a groan, she slumped back in her seat.

Duncan winced. He knew what that sound meant. He cursed his luck and the cheap product she was driving and changed his grip to the body. With ease, he lifted and turned the car back onto the road.

“Gee, thanks,” Heather said, the sarcasm in her tone rubbing on his nerves.

Duncan yanked the car’s bumper from under the snow and held it up like a trophy. “Do you think this will fit in the boot?” he asked with a cocky grin.

“Nah, you keep it,” Heather said.

“I’ll pay to get it repaired,” Duncan said with a smirk that held just a hint of an apology.

“That’s okay; you were only trying to help,” Maria said, leaning across the seat and calling out the window.

Heather turned raised eyebrows at her friend. “First, you don’t need to shout, he could hear you a mile away, and second, that’s my line.”

“You were going to be nice for once?” Maria asked, sitting back.

“Nope, I would have said he could shove it where the sun doesn’t shine, and I can take care of my own damn bill,” Heather said.

“See, my way was nicer,” Maria said, grinning.

“She has a point,” Duncan said, coming to stand by the window, bumper in hand, and he leaned over to look in. “Her way was nicer.”

“Thanks for your brawn-over-brain attempt at getting us out,” Heather said and rolled up the window as he opened his mouth to speak.

“You are mean,” Maria said.

“I know, it’s a life choice; treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen,” Heather said with a little chuckle. “Not that I want that man keen.”

“Uh-ha, sure you don’t,” Maria mumbled.

“Huh?”

“Not a thing,” Maria said, grinning.

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

“Good things come to those who …” Billy looked at Zoe’s face as he placed a large steaming bowl of casserole in front of her. “Pout.”

“No offence,” Zoe said, placing her chin on her upturned hand. “I’m just a little bored.”

“You want me to start wooing you?” Billy asked with a cheeky grin.

“Hell no,” Zoe said. “But, what do you do for entertainment?”

“Hunt,” Billy said, sitting opposite her.

“That’s it?”

“Pretty much,” Billy said. “We don’t call them hunting cabins for nothing.”

“Wait, this isn’t your home?” Zoe asked.
