Nodding her head, she winced from the pounding in her head. “I'm okay. I'm just tired. I didn't get a lot of sleep last night and I had to open the store this morning.”

It was all a lie because she knew she wasn't okay. She was sick and there was no doubt about it. The aches she felt whenever she moved her body, the coughing that happened pretty consistently, the hot and cold feeling, and just feeling like utter crap made it clear she wasn’t fine.

She just hoped Hedda wouldn't catch on to her being sick. It seemed like Miles already knew and she hoped he would keep it to himself.

“Are you sick?” Hedda asked. “I didn't actually think it would happen. I knew you had a weaker immune system, I just didn't think you would really get sick from being around all those people.”

She cast her eyes down to the floor, not knowing what to say. Hedda knew she was sick, even though she’d asked.

Storm couldn't blame Hedda for not believing her because a lot of people didn't. They had to see it with their own eyes before they realized she was telling the truth all along. It sucked, but it had been like that for so many years Storm didn’t even think about it anymore.

“Not a lot of people believe me. That's why I stay away from big groups,” Storm said. “It's really fine. I'll get over it at some point.”

She didn't know when she would because she didn't have much, or any, medicine at home. There wasn't time to check this morning because she had been running late. Hopefully she did.

“Shit. You are sick. What are you doing here?” Hedda asked. “You should be at home resting and getting better, not working and making it worse.”

“Some people don't have a choice in having to work. I need the money,” she whispered.

Miles continued to stare at her and she felt herself moving in place, feeling weird. She didn't know what she felt but she felt something. Was it good or was it bad? Why was he staring at her?

“What's going on?” he asked, looking at Hedda.

“I told you last night. She has a weak immune system. I didn't think it would get this bad, so I dragged her to the party,” Hedda responded.

Storm looked at Hedda with wide eyes. She had told Miles she had a weak immune system? She knew it was true, but it wasn't really her information to give out. It wasn't the worst information to give out, she could have told Miles she was a Little, but it was still her information and not Hedda's.

“You should be resting, Little one. You working is only going to make it worse,” he said in a gentle voice.

Storm’s stomach lit up with butterflies and she felt all gooey. She loved it when he called her Little one, even if it had only been twice. The thought of him calling anybody else Little one dampened her mood. She didn't like the thought, and it shocked her because she didn't know Miles and he wasn't her Daddy.

She needed to remember that anytime she talked to him. Hopefully, this would be the last time she saw him.

“I have to go back to work,” Storm said.

She knew if he continued to demand she go home and rest, she would. There was something about his voice that was commanding, but it felt like he wanted what was best for her. Storm had that her whole life; people wanting what was best for her, but with Miles it felt different.

Maybe it was because he was someone she found attractive. Or maybe it was because he reminded her of a Daddy Dom. Something she had been longing for years for.

“Storm, I'm really sorry for dragging you to his birthday party. I didn't think you were going to actually get this sick. I'm really sorry and if there's anything I can do, don't hesitate to call me,” Hedda said.

There was no way she would be calling Hedda. She loved the gesture, but Hedda didn't need to see where Storm lived. She knew Hedda lived in a beautiful house and Storm didn't. She didn't want the pity. That's the last thing she wanted.

“I will,” she lied.

Miles continued to stare at her. Why was he looking at her so much? Did she have something on her face? There were other things to look at.

“Go sit in the car. I'll be right out,” Miles said to Hedda.

Storm looked at him confused. Why was he telling Hedda to go sit out in the car? What was he going to be doing?

Hedda didn't argue with him, which surprised her. She didn't like being told what to do and Miles just did that.

“I’ll see you later,” Hedda said as she walked away.

Storm rocked on her feet, not knowing what to do because Miles was still standing in front of her. Why did he do that?

“I’ve got to work. Do you need help finding a book?” she softly asked.
