Miles held Storm close and kept applying pressure to her wound. He hoped all this would save her life as they drove back to the compound. Miles hoped his body heat would warm her up slowly so she didn’t have any damage or long lasting effects.

He didn’t know how long they stayed in that position and he didn’t care. He just wanted to do what was best for her, even if it meant him being uncomfortable.

His arm was going numb from where her head was resting on it, but he was willing to go through that pain and discomfort if it meant her living.

“How’s she looking?” Miles asked.

“Cold. Too cold and she’s losing a lot of blood,” Angelo responded, not looking up from what he was doing. “What type of blood are you?”

“O negative, I think.”

Miles couldn’t remember the last time someone had asked him that. He didn’t go to the doctor often and he never had to tell anyone that. But his mom, when he was younger, made sure he knew what it was.

Hopefully, he was right in what he said.

“When we get to the compound, I'm going to need you to give blood. We have some O negative at the compound, but I don’t think we have enough and I don’t know what type Storm is,” he said.

“No. I’m coming with you. I can help,” Miles said.

“You’re just going to get in the way. You’ll stay out and let Anita take your blood.”

Before he could say anything, Taj stopped the van and got out.

“How do you want to do this?” he asked.

“I’ve got a gurney my nurses are bringing. Taj, the nurses, and I will lift her up and place her on the gurney,” Angelo responded.

And true to his words, Lizzy and Maggie came running out with a gurney.

All Miles could do was watch as the four of them took Storm away from him. Before he could do or say anything, Lizzy had placed her hand on the wound while they jogged back into the compound.

“Ready for me to take your blood?” Anita asked.

Miles didn’t look away from where they had taken Storm. Worry built in his stomach as the seconds passed.

Was she going to make it? Was Angelo going to be able to save her? Was there going to be anything wrong after?

So many questions went through his mind as he watched the place she once was.

“Miles?” Anita whispered his name.

He looked at her and she gave him a small smile.

“Ready for me to take your blood?” she asked. “The sooner the better.”

He nodded his head and got out of the vehicle, following Anita toward the building.

Miles hoped and prayed Storm would pull through.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

MILES

It had been over twenty minutes since Anita went to Angelo with his blood.

Twenty long minutes.

He didn’t know how much longer he could take as he waited to hear if Storm was okay or not. Anita, Lizzy, and Maggie were the only nurses that worked for them. They didn’t need a lot of people working right now. It had been a peaceful time.
