“How did you two meet and become friends?” he asked, looking at Storm.

He wanted to hear Storm talk more and hoped she would answer the question.

“You know the bookstore I go to all the time?” Hedda said and he nodded.

She loved that bookstore and went there daily, buying whatever books she wanted even if she wouldn’t read them for a year or two. He didn’t understand the appeal, but Hedda wasn’t his Little, just his best friend.

“Well, Storm started working there a couple months ago. I almost fell off one of the ladders and she helped me. Such a fucking sweet thing that day.” Hedda looped her arm into Storm’s.

“Language,” he grumbled.

She rolled her eyes and continued to talk. “She didn’t really talk to me that day, but I knew we were going to be great friends. So, I came back the next day and the next until she started talking to me. See now, I was right, we are great friends!”

Miles knew if Hedda didn't continue going back and try talking to her, they wouldn't have become friends. That was what she had done to him and now they were best friends.

“Well, it's nice to meet you. I hope to see you around more,” he said.

Did he really just say that? It was unlike him to say those types of things.I hope to see you around more.He scoffed. Did he really mean it?

Storm looked at him and nodded her head. What was she thinking?

It hadn't seemed like she was enjoying his birthday party and he couldn't blame her. He didn't want this, but Hedda insisted. She had wanted a day that was light and carefree when most days were sad and gloomy.

He knew it was hard for Hedda to be around this all the time and maybe that's why she cursed and pretended like nothing bothered her. But deep down, he knew things did bother her and she craved a normal life.

Miles watched as Storm looked at Hedda and grabbed her arm.

“I need to go. I have work tomorrow,” she softly said.

Hedda went to open her mouth but before she could, Storm started to speak again.

“Please,” she whispered.

Did she not want to be here? Did Hedda drag her here?

The girls hugged and Storm started to walk away.

“You text me when you get home,” Hedda said. “If you don't, I will track you down.”

Storm chuckled and shook her head. “You don't know where I live but I will text you.”

“I'll see you tomorrow.”

Before she could walk any further, Miles started to talk. “Do you need a ride home? Or do you need me to walk you to your car?”

He didn't know why he asked but it just felt right. He felt protective of her and wanted to make sure she got to her car or wherever she was going okay. Everything inside him hoped she had a car and wasn't taking the bus.

Her whole body tensed as she turned her head to look at him. “No. I drove here, and I don't need any assistance to my car,” she gently said.

He wanted to argue but thought it best if he didn't. He didn't know her and shouldn't have this attraction toward her. Work was where he needed to focus now. He had several things he needed to catch up on since he’d gone to see his sister, Monroe, in Springfield, Missouri. Rogan had been nice and let him take a couple days off to see her again.

It was unlike Rogan to do that. He was normally hard and didn’t budge but Miles figured it was because he had finally found his sister. Rogan had his own sister, his own soft spot.

He watched Storm walk into the house and disappear between the bodies of the Ricci Crime Family. Everything in him wanted to walk with her to see her safely into her car but he didn't.

She wasn't his and had told him no.

“Tell me about her,” he found himself saying to Hedda.
