She probably felt betrayed by him because he forgot to have someone guard her after he left her apartment. He knew he should’ve and was kicking himself in the ass for that.

“No,” she said again. “I don’t want to eat.”

He had hoped for a second when she said no that she was agreeing with him, but he should’ve known. Storm showed other people that she was calm and collected, but she was stubborn and Miles was finding that out in spades.

At least this time around he was.

She was more compliant the first time he went to her apartment and took care of her. She must have been really out of it if she didn’t fight him.

But now. Now she was fighting him with everything. Even if it was only to make her feel better.

He knew part of it was because she didn’t want to be here with him. Miles had a lot to make up for and was prepared to do a lot for her, show her he meant every word. He wanted to treat her like a princess, but a princess with boundaries.

She needed rules and boundaries so she didn’t hurt herself. The fact she went to work while being sick meant she may not have been logically thinking about everything.

Did she ever?

Why hadn’t she told him or Hedda about someone following her or making threats to her before? It had been going on for days and the day she finally got kidnapped was the day she told Hedda?

Miles closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He knew he needed to be firm with her, but he also needed to be soft and caring. There was a fine balance between the two and he didn’t want to step over the line, tipping the balance to make things worse.

Hedda had told him and texted him he needed to be softer with her, show her he really was attracted to her and wanted to be her Daddy. Miles didn’t feel like he was good at being soft, only firm. It was one or the other, but he was trying for Storm.

She may not want to be with him right now, but he had seen some of the signs of her attraction to him, of her feeling comfortable around him. The way she relaxed after a second of being in his arms. The way her cheeks were rosy when he talked about things or called her his good girl.

There were several things to indicate she still felt something for him, and he was hoping it was just enough that his actions would help propel those feelings further.

She was going to be his no matter what.

Storm tensed when he first walked into any room she was in but within a couple of seconds, she would relax. He didn’t know if she knew this, or if she realized she would steal glances his way sometimes.

He had caught her several times looking over at him as they would talk or even when they weren’t. He suspected she didn’t know she was doing it, but he wasn’t going to tell her.

He loved it when she looked at him.

Miles opened his eyes and looked at Storm sitting in front of him. She had a pensive look on her face, and he wished he could read her mind to know what was going on in her brain. He wanted to know what she was thinking so he could prove to her he was there for her, and he wanted what was best for her.

But he couldn’t, and he had to figure out what was right to say in the moment. He was pretty sure he would mess up, but he would also learn from it.

“The doctor said you need food in your body so you’ll heal properly. It isn’t good to starve your body when it needs food the most,” he softly explained. “You’re exhausted and I understand, but we need to feed your body so it can heal and grow.”

Storm continued to look at him so he grabbed a chair, sitting down in it.

“Can you tell me why you don’t want to eat?” he asked.

He hoped she would honestly answer him. He didn’t like lying, especially from her.

She shrugged her shoulders. “Tired.”

Miles gave her a smile. “I think there’s more to it than just being tired.”

Storm wouldn’t look him in the eyes and he knew right then there was something else. He just didn’t know what.

“It’s my famous chicken noodle soup,” he said, trying to entice her to eat.

He remembered her facial expression when she ate it the first time. He knew she loved it and wanted her to have it again.

That got her to look up at him.
