But she knew there was still a threat out there. The threat knew where she was living.

“Storm?” Hedda said. “Can you hear me?”

She whimpered and pushed herself against the wall, trying to make herself even smaller. She needed to disappear, get away from everything.

But it didn’t seem like she could.

“I’m going to call Miles. You just stay here,” she said.

She wasn't going to go anywhere. Maybe she should though. Maybe she should leave and try to find someplace safe. She had no clue where that would be though.

Storm didn’t know how long she sat in the corner, but every little noise made her flinch. Her stomach was hurting more and more as time went on, but she didn’t want to check it.

A door slammed open, making her scream, and she could hear people talking. She had no clue what they were saying and even if she could, she didn’t know if she would really understand them right now.

All she could see were the fingers in front of her.

The fingers someone cut off and sent to her.

A man and a woman's fingers.

Terror ran through her as footsteps got closer to her. Could it be Richard? Was he right in front of her, waiting for her to look up before he took her with him?

She pushed herself further into the wall to try and cover herself with the chair. Maybe if they couldn’t see her, they wouldn’t know she was there. Maybe she could stay hidden until they left.

“Storm?” Miles said. “Can you hear me?”

She whimpered and buried her head into her knees. All she wanted to do was be so small no one could see her and just disappear.

“Stormy,” he said in a soft voice. “Can you come out from behind the chair? You’re safe now.”

She whimpered again. She was not leaving her spot no matter what happened.

“That’s okay. The world is pretty scary right now, huh?” he asked. “But I’m here to protect you. To make you feel safe. No one is going to hurt you.”

Part of her believed him but another part of her didn’t. She knew she would be safe, but Richard knew where she was right now. He could come at any moment and try to take her again.

“You can stay there as long as you want, but I need to make sure you didn’t rip your stitches,” he softly said. “Do you think I can come around and look at your stomach?”

She slightly lifted her head and looked around to see if he was near. She could see his shoulder peeking from behind the recliner, but she couldn’t see anything else. Part of her realized he was trying not to scare her by staying away.

Storm groaned as she moved her legs but once she looked down, a cry escaped her lips.

So much blood.

Her shirt and pants were soaked in blood and she could see the little pool of blood beneath her. How much had she bled? How long had the stitches been ripped?

“Stormy?” he asked. “What’s wrong?”

She didn’t reply but instead pressed down on her stitches. Maybe by applying pressure it would help stop the bleeding. Storm didn’t know anything, and she was feeling overwhelmed and out of her depth right now.

She cried out in pain as she pressed down harder, trying to keep good pressure on it.

All of a sudden, the recliner started to move and Miles appeared in front of her. She pushed her body back into the wall, trying to get further away, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to. She was already against the wall.

“Daddy is here,” he said. “You’re safe now. Let Daddy take care of you.”

Tears formed in her eyes as she stared at him. She just wanted him to take control and look after her. She didn't want to have to think in a time like this. Storm wanted Daddy to take care of everything and make everything better.
