“What’s so funny?” I demanded, slightly hurt and annoyed at their amusement.

“Kate and I were taking bets with Amanda on how long it would take one of you guys to crack. I think Amanda wins with less than a day.”

“You were taking bets on Parker and me?”

“It's what we do. Kate and I also had a bet about how long it would take Parker to admit he was in love with you. She won that one. I was surprised it took him as long as it did. Parker told me on the flight back what happened last night. When we saw him this morning, he was pretty broken up about it.”

“Oh no.”

“Oh, no is right. He left your apartment last night, convinced he would never see you again.”

“I promised I would visit.”

“It might have more to do with not telling him you loved him back. You do love him, don’t you?”

“I do. I love him, Amelia. I was wrong to let him walk away. I should’ve told him. I didn’t know what to do. Can you please give me his address?”

The flight attendant called for group one to start boarding.

“Wait, are you at the airport? What time do you land?”

“Around four.”

“Send me all your flight details ASAP. Kate will go pick you up. Parker and his oldest sister are coming here for dinner. It took some convincing to get him out of his apartment, but otherwise, he would be sad and wallow with his body weight in pizza and beer.”

“You’re a good friend, Amelia.”

Telling him I loved him, asking for forgiveness, and meeting his sister all on the same day. Wow.

“I’m glad you’re choosing him, Blake. He loves you in a way I’ve never seen him love anyone. But I might have to momentarily hate you for breaking his heart.”

“I promise I will never hurt him again if he doesn’t hate me yet.”

“Oh, Blake, he could never hate you. I’ll see you in a bit.”

I hung up the phone and joined the line to get on my flight. I absolutely hated flying since it poked at one of my biggest fears, but hey, I’ve jumped off the side of a small cliff; I could ride on one of the safest forms of transportation. I had Parker to thank for that.

I squeezed through the two women sitting on the aisle and the middle seat to get to the window. I settled in for the relatively short flight. My heart rate skipped again upon take off, but I distracted myself by thinking of what I would say to Parker when I saw him. It wasn’t much of a distraction since my brain was stumped on any words.

“Why are you headed to Texas?” the woman in the middle seat asked while we were in the middle of the air. “Sorry, I like to ask questions on flights. It keeps me distracted.”

“No worries,” I laughed, appreciating the distraction. “I’m going to tell the man I love that I love him. It’s a really long story.”

“No way! It’s like you’re part of a Hallmark movie. Can you see color?”

“It sure feels that way right now. I can only see blue. How about you? Why are you headed there?”

“I can see color. I got married a few years ago,” she explained. “I’m actually coming home. I was at a conference in Boston and just had a layover here. How did you meet your guy? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“I met him at the gym, but we worked together,” I smiled at the kind stranger. “How about you?”

“College, classic class story. The more time we spent together over our first year, the more colors I could see, but I knew from day one that he was mine. We’ve been together for over ten years.”

“Wow. Congratulations.”

“So, if you can only see blue, how are you sure he’s the one you love?”

Momentary doubt entered me. Everything lined up with Erik and Richard, and no more colors had developed since my fights with them. What was clear before was momentarily muddled in my brain. But the momentary doubt quickly dissipated. If, by some cruel twist of fate, Parker hadn’t been the cause for the colors, I didn’t care.
