I pulled away from him and smiled. I didn’t have to memorize his face anymore.

“There is something that I haven’t figured out.”

“What is that?” he kissed my neck.

“Can you see color?” I pushed him back slightly.

In all the time Parker and I spent together, I assumed he couldn’t see color, just like me. He never talked about colors and never referenced being able to see them. But I didn’t know if that was true. Did he know he loved me because the colors appeared for him too?

He chuckled. “I’ve always been able to see color, but I don’t need my eyes to tell me how I feel about you.”

“Wait, so you’ve been able to see color this entire time?”

“Yeah,” he sheepishly smiled. “I’ve been committing everything about you to memory since we met because I thought we had an expiration date. I’m not sure how much you can see right now, but I’ve been falling in love with all of it. I love seeing your brown eyes in the sunlight, your blonde hair swinging back and forth as you run, and the way your cheeks turn pink almost immediately in the sunlight. I should confess something, though.”

“What?”

“I’ve known you can see blue. You started staring at the sky more, and I saw the glimmer of recognition in your eyes every time you saw blue things. You kept staring at me every time I wore something blue, so I went shopping and bought more blue clothes than anything else I owned. I guess now I’ll have to expand my closet.”

“You are perfect, Parker.” I clutched his shirt and pulled him in for a kiss.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Amelia, Kate, and Ciara with their faces pressed against the glass. They rapidly pretended not to be looking when we turned toward them.

“They’re so nosy,” Parker shook his head. “Sorry.”

“Nothing to be sorry about having people like them in your life. Oh, you’ll never believe how I met your sister.”

I recounted to Parker my encounter with his sister on the plane. He revealed his plans to go back to Virginia tomorrow. We would have to talk about how exactly this would work, but for now, I was happy enjoying the moment.

Ciara almost tackled Parker to the ground when she came back inside, and we all stood in the middle of the kitchen for a minute, wrapped in a tight hug. Kate announced that the steaks were ready, and we all piled out to the patio for dinner. The food was delicious, and the view of the trees in the back was even better. The heat and humidity would take a while to get used to, but that was a sacrifice I was willing to make.

My stomach was full, and my heart mended from last night. I looked at the smiling faces around me. Parker’s hand was firmly planted on my thigh as he chatted with his sister. I was feeling at home already.

I know I had made the right decision. But on Monday, I had to tell Connor I was leaving Virginia.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Monday morning.

A lifetime left.

Gabby and Nathaniel picked Parker and me up from the airport late on Sunday night. We caught them up on all the decisions made in the last twenty-four hours.

Nathaniel wasn’t thrilled with my decision to leave since the dream of the power duo would be over, but he supported us wholeheartedly. Gabby threw back in my face how resistant I had been the first night she strongarmed me into dancing with Parker. I gladly gave her the credit.

Parker and I had many discussions over the last day while I stayed at his apartment. He offered to leave Truly You and settle in Virginia, but I couldn’t let him do that. He was a big part of what made Truly You special, and Amelia needed him. Not to mention, most of his family was in Texas, and that was important to him.

I decided I would resign and look for a new job. There were plenty of jobs available and, with my resume, I would surely find something. I was worried about telling Connor, but at the end of the day, I was replaceable, and I would gladly train whomever he chose to replace me before leaving.

I shook in my flats as I walked into the building. Parker was going to wait downstairs for me. After this, we would grab breakfast and go get boxes to pack up my life.

“Are you completely sure this is what you want?” his eyes studied me, concerned.

“Yes,” I confirmed. “I’m not going to lie and say that it’s easy, but this is what I want.”

“I just don’t want you to regret it.”

“Parker, I will never regret choosing you.”
