Pain explodes in my cheek and my head snaps back. I don't expect the punch, or the shove that comes after so she can scoot around me to get out of the bathroom.

My feisty woman has a helluva right hook. I'll wear her bruise tomorrow.

I follow her down the hall whistling.

Chapter 38

LUCIA

The infuriating man is whistling again. I know this song. "Love is a Battlefield." Aargh!

I spin around and point at him. "Knock that off."

His brows raised, his handsome face the picture of innocence, or as innocent as a made man can look, he stops whistling. Shaking my head, I turn back around and stomp toward the front door.

The whistling starts again. It takes me until I reach the door to recognize it. "My Girl" by the Temptations.

Are you kidding me?

Refusing to give him the satisfaction of a reaction, I storm outside, only to stop at the SUV when I realize my purse and coat are still in Zeus's office. Along with the contract. That I still have to sign.

Porca miseria.

I don't know how long I stand there staring at the truck, telling myself I need to suck it up and go back inside to get my stuff.

Then the sound of whistling reaches me. He's still on "My Girl" like a smart speaker set on repeat.

"Why didn't you get in the truck? It's too cold to be standing around outside without your coat." Atlas sounds so dang reasonable.

Not at all angry I punched him in the face.

My hand still hurts. I shake it and wince. I'm not so lucky.

He notices. Of course, he does.

"You need to ice that. Here, put on your coat and then get into the truck. I'll be back with an icepack." He hands me my coat.

Avoiding looking at him, I take it and slide into the sleeves, grateful for the near instant warmth. It's a bright autumn day, but the air is chilly enough to cause gooseflesh to erupt on my arms.

I put my hand out for my purse. "My bag."

"Here." He holds it out toward me, dangling it from his big hand by the straps.

I reach for it, but he doesn't let go.

My gaze snaps to his face. There is a red mark on his cheek that will bruise, but no swelling that I can see.

His blue eyes are waiting to snag mine with that invisible tractor beam I swear he has. "There you are."

I roll my eyes. "Here I am. Now, will you let me have my purse?"

He releases it and because I'm tugging on it, I stumble back a step.

Reaching out, he grabs my arm. "Steady."

"Don't touch me." I jerk away.

His big body swells with affront, but he lets me go. "Orion said you can sign the contract tomorrow."
