"You can't say something like that and then calmly ask me about my work attire."

"Pretty sure I can."

"Atlas! Be reasonable."

"Was it reasonable not to take the morning after pill?" She has good instincts, but it's clear she's not used to following them. "You knew it was the right choice."

"I can't get pregnant."

"If that were true, I'm pretty sure you would have led with it when we talked about you not being on birth control earlier."

"Are you calling me a liar?"

"No, but you're not telling the whole story either."

"How can you know that?" She shakes her head. "Do not say it. Youdo notknow me, no matter what you think."

She'll learn differently, but for now, I won't push that particular point. "Tell me why you think it will be hard for you to get pregnant."

Her face freezes in a grimace of grief, an old agony deep in her gaze. "I'm not ready to talk about that."

"Okay."

"Okay," she echoes.

"Should you take the towel out of your hair before we go back downstairs."

"We?"

"You're not spending the night around a bunch of horny, drunk men without me."

"Has anyone ever told you that you are pathologically possessive?"

"No."

Her expression is pure skepticism. "Right."

"I've never cared before if the women I was fucking wanted to fuck other men."

"Never?" she asks, her voice breathy.

"Never. My cousin asked me to introduce you because he wanted to get with you and I threw him across my brother's office."

"You told your brother and cousin about me?"

"Yes."

"And youthrewyour cousin?"

"I didn't kill him." That's restraint right there.

"Good to know."

"Don't be afraid of me. I will never hurt you."

"That's easy to say, not so easy to follow through on."

I want to know what she means by that, but Lucia refuses to talk anymore while she's getting ready. She tells me if I can't be quiet, I need to go in the other room. She needs to center herself before going down to the club.
