"Let me just finish this beer order."

"You need more of Shawn's ale?" Atlas asks, his tone sneering when he says my supplier's name.

"No. This is my monthly order for the national brands. My clientele likes craftsman ale, but the margin on it isn't as good as what's mass-produced."

"I notice your liquor is higher end than I expect in a nightclub."

"We don't serve rotgut and because of that we are busy on nights the local bars are practically empty."

"But aren't you losing margin on the other nights? And you're closed on the quietest nights already."

She shrugs. "I'm not serving top shelf, but what is the point of offering my customers swill, I wouldn't serve a guest on a bad day?"

"You see your customers as guests?"

She closes her laptop and stands up. "Yes. My staff are trained to see them that way too. We're more than a dance club to spend a couple of hours getting wasted with your friends. Nuovi Inizi is an experience."

His expression is blank, but I see the minor tells around his eyes and the edges of his lips. He thinks I'm wrong, but he keeps his mouth shut.

"Thank you for not trying to educate the little woman." Tino and his father would never have held back.

They assumed they knew better.

"Your success speaks for itself. I wouldn't presume to question the method that got you here."

"But you don't agree with it."

"We don't see the club business the same way, but there's more than one way to build a business. If your goal was to have multiple locations, your methods would have to reflect that."

"One club is plenty for me to handle." It pays for Lenny's care and provides me a decent livelihood.

That is enough.

"Even with only one club, I think you need a general manager to take some of the load off of you."

"That's in the long-term plan." But can't happen right now. Not if I want to buy my house.

Having a home that isn't an efficiency above my nightclub is more important to me than having more time in my day to revel in my aloneness.

Though I'm not alone right now.

I grab my purse. "You ready to go?"

"Not yet." He pulls me into a kiss.

My brain is fuzzy from pleasure when he pulls his head back. "I like this look on you."

"What look is that?" I tease in a sultry tone that only came into my repertoire after meeting him.

"The just kissed and thinking about fucking look."

"Accurate."

Growling, he lays another lip-lock on me that sets fire to my core.

This time I'm swaying on my feet when our mouths break apart. "Maybe we should go upstairs and see if you can't keep me looking like this for the rest of today."

I'm caught up on paperwork. There are always things I could be doing, like updating our social media accounts and looking into new suppliers. But I deserve time off too.
