"I'm nervous about meeting your brother."

"Brothers," I admit.

"Both of them will be there? I thought Orion was a lawyer. It's Monday. Isn't he at his office?"

"He'll be there for dinner."

"Oh. So, now I'm nervous about meeting both of them. Do you all live together?"

"Yes. My cousins live there too." She doesn't need to know about our men who live on the grounds too.

They won't be at the house. Theo, Michael and Bobby want to meet her, but their recon job at the bar is the reason I have Lucia with me.

I need all three to infiltrate the bar. Unlike some of the specialists that came up under my grandfather, me and my brothers never send our guys in without enough backup. Neither do my cousins.

Which is why we've never lost a soldier from our teams. Doesn't mean we won't. Death is a part of this life. I should know, I'm usually the one dealing it out.

But it will not be because of us.

"That's a lot of men in one house. Do any of your brothers or cousins have significant others?"

"It's a big house. And no, they're all single."

Chapter 19

LUCIA

He saysthey're all singlelike he's not. With anyone else, I would worry he'd slipped and was revealing a committed relationship to me.

But that's not it.

Atlas considers us a couple. I'm his and he's mine.

It's surreal. So, why does it feel so right?

I'm still asking myself that question after we finish our walk in the rose garden and he drives us to his home.

He uses his phone to open the gate, but there are guards on either side. And I can see others patrolling the grounds.

How rich are these men?

Wealthy enough to worry about their security. Then what is Atlas doing running around without a protection detail? I ask him.

He laughs. "I don't need anyone else to protect me."

"You can say that after what happened to you as a kid?"

"Anyone coming after me is signing their own death warrant."

"I guess you took a lot of self-defense courses after you got back home."

"Something like that."

"It worries me that you see yourself as invincible. You aren't. No one is."

"If you say so."

"I mean it, Atlas. It's obvious you and your family are worried about security. You shouldn't be going to clubs alone, much less picking up strange women."
