“He won’t tell.” I tell her, noticing the change in her demeanor, and she smiles. “Our secret is safe with Jensen.”

Sweater weather - The Neighbourhood

Noah

After putting all of the dishes away, we join the rest of the party in the living room. Christine is all sweet and cuddled up with my dad, batting her eyelashes, being an angel. My mind goes straight to the night I heard her talking with Ronan. What a piece of work.

How does she manage to hide what she truly is? Is my dad really this blind?

They are all chatting casually, but I notice Tia is strangely quiet watching Webster playing with stuffed animals on the carpet.

“Are you okay?” Ronan asks her gently.

“To be honest, not so much. I want to go home.”

“I can drive you, if you want?” I offer. “And I don’t care if it’s a few hours drive.”

“That would be great. I just have to pack my stuff first. You don’t mind watching Web for a bit?” Tia looks at my dad and he shakes his head before she leaves for her old bedroom.

I follow her, uneasiness cooking inside of me, and close the door behind us. She sits on the bed and immediately starts crying. It breaks my heart to see her like this, but I don’t know how to help.

“He wasn’t like this, Noah, I swear. I would’ve never had a child with him if he was.”

“You know Jensen and I never really liked him, but it’s not our place to talk shit. You need to either leave or have a good and long conversation with Gregory.” I say, patting her hair, but deep in my bones I truly want her to leave him. She deserves so much more.

“I want what’s best for Webster.”

“Then you have to do what’s best for you, because a happy mom raises a happy child.” With that I leave her to pack.

Jensen joins us in the car right before we take off, and so does Ronan, neither of them wanting to spend another minute near Christine. I need to drive two hours to Tia’s place in Poppy Valley and two hours back, so it will be fun to have some company. She lives close to our old store, I’m close to our new one. We plan on opening another one once Jensen is out of school, so he’ll be in charge and run it the way he wants to. He was also thinking about opening up a gym, but decided to postpone it, since he needs a lot of money for it.

“I won’t be coming back here soon,” my twin speaks from the back seat.

“Why?” Jensen asks.

“I need some time to work this shit out. It can’t be like this forever. I won’t accept it.”

“Good for you, we support your decision.” Ronan says as she reaches for her hand, and my heart swells in my chest.

“Noah, could you drop me off atPastino’s? I have a date.” Jensen coats his voice in sugar, as he always does when he needs something.

“A date with whom?” the rest of us ask in unison.

“I don’t know his real name, nobody uses their real name on Grindr. But he has a blonde buzz cut, lots of tattoos and gorgeous blue eyes.”

“Sounds like your type of guy!” Tia exclames.

“Well, he is a bit older than I would like him to be, and he is from Silver Lake which is awesome since my school is close, but his bio made me laugh, so I said why not. A green flag, right? Since he is coming here to meet me and not making me go there.”

“Yes! What was it? The bio, I mean.” Ronan asks.

“His name isBlue, but his profile bio saidBig blue eyes, a head full of hair and a dick to die for, and I just had to text him. I’m leaving for boarding school in a week anyways, so why not just have some fun?” Jensen shrugs his shoulders, “And if I find myself liking him, I might actually prolong it, see where it can go… Don’t come at me for it.” He lifts his finger in my direction.

“Hmm, interesting.” Ronan says, smiling softly.
