Taryn didn’t know what tingles were, but they didn’t sound bad. Before he could open his mouth, Leah ran her fingers at the base of her neck, touching her spine.
Taryn closed his mouth before a groan could escape. Nines, what he wouldn’t give to runhisfingers down her spine.
The instinct was so powerful, he almost swayed on the spot.
Nines, not now. He thought he’d eradicated that side of himself the moment he’d left that rotten flying citadel.
“That’s so weird.” She laughed and it sounded like the sweetest melody. “How does it work?”
Her eyes came even more alight as she stared up at him, waiting for an answer.
She even leaned closer.
“All beings have energy inside them, pulsing outward,” Taryn said, daring a step closer to her, too. She didn’t move, all her attention still on him. “Some at a higher frequency than others. Quillons can detect it. The closer the frequency to your own, the stronger the connection.”
“What can you feel exactly?”
“Emotional states, strong feelings, intentions. It depends on the bond. In theory, Lightmates can feel almost anything between them.”
Her tentative smile vanished. “Can Quillons read minds?”
No. But Taryn could.
A complicated answer, with a secret he’d been hiding most of his life, for a being he’d just met and wanted to impress, not horrify with his past.
But he didn’t want to lie.
Before he could think of an appropriate answer, Leah’s energy changed.
It froze with dread.
She took a step back. No, she stumbled back.
