He looked at her from the corner of his eyes. “Your heartbeat tells me something different.”

Of course he would hear that. “What else can you do, superman?”

“Not a man, and notsuper…” He tapped the translator strapped to his ear.

He seemed more super than any man Leah had ever met.

They locked gazes again, as if they couldn’t help each other.

The sky rumbled in the distance.

The ship swayed to the side.

Leah was caught off guard. Before she could grab onto her seat, she tilted toward Taryn.

His right hand shot toward her, warm touch steadying her.

That simple press of his fingers against her skin felt intoxicating. Like every cell in her body had been waiting for this exact moment.

As she parted her lips to thank him–or maybe kiss him, because she was obviously out of her mind–his hands flared up again. Fine,Ignited.

Leah’s soulmate definitely had fire in his veins.

TARYN

Of all moments Taryn’s hands could have Ignited again, his first flight with Leah had to be the worst.

Quillons rarely touched in public and had evolved beyond basic gestures for this very reason.

But Taryn’s Lightmate had been unbalanced. Falling.

His most basic instincts had flared to life.

His Lightmate had needed help. He’d provided it.

His Light only sensed the raw impulse, not the complications that came with it.

The simple flutter of her soft human skin underneath his fingers, and his hands Ignited.

His fingers elongated into sharp talons. The Light pushed from his chest, burning through his body, as his hands darkened and cracked, revealing the pulsing veins underneath.

Ignited, a Quillon’s hands turned to sharp weapons. Taryn had never had it happen outside of battle, when his Light went erratic, focused on survival.

He’d barely met Leah, and it had already happened twice.

His Light was frantic now, but the feeling was markedly different. It wasn’t the rush of blood and rage and desperation.

It was the soft, comforting flutter of Leah’s human energy tentatively reaching out toward his.

But as soon as their energies melded, for that fraction that felt like sweet eternity, Leah’s aura shifted.

Surprise.

Curiosity.

Desire.
