The first person I want to share this moment with is my dad. So, I take a moment in the enclosed office, and I call him.

“Hi, Dad.”

“Hi, Liam. So, tell me, has my son landed the biggest deal of his career yet?”

I pause for dramatic effect. “I fucking nailed it,” I grin into the phone.

I can hear my father clap and laugh on the other end of the phone, and it sends a jolt of pride through my chest. “Knew you would. You’re your father’s son, after all.”

“Pretty sure it was my charm and sparkling personality that did it.”

He laughs and pauses for a second. “I…” He clears his throat before continuing, “I’m proud of you, really proud.”

“Tell me you aren’t crying and I’m not even there to rinse you for it.”

He sniffs. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

I let out a laugh when he sniffs down the line again. “Whatever, old man. I’m going to crash at the hotel for a bit before dinner, so I’ll talk to you later. Tell mum the news for me?”

When we hang up, I know the next person I want to share this with is Jess. I drop her a text and she replies, telling me she is just about to go into a meeting but will call when she’s home in an hour.

After my nap, which was arguably one of the best naps I’ve ever had because… jetlag, I tap my phone to see I’ve got a missed call from Jess. I’ve got a while before I need to leave before dinner with Jeremy and his wife, so I call her back on video.

“Hey.” Her face fills the screen of my phone; she hasn’t got any make up on and her hair is in a low ponytail, off her face. I know I saw her twenty-four hours ago, but fuck, she’s beautiful. Even more so when she looks like this.

I can’t help the huge grin on my face at seeing her. “Hey, Scotty. It’s good to see your face.” I settle against my headboard and put one arm behind my head.

“Meh, your face is okay too, I guess,” she smirks. There’s that snarky Jess I know.

I mock a hurt expression. “Ouch… I’m wounded. So, is this hangry Jess or snarky Jess? I can’t get a read on you over the phone.”

She huffs a breath, her eyes narrowing playfully. “You don’t know me.” The way she says it is like she doesn’t want me to know her as well as I actually do.

I shake my head. “Some things never change. Okay, I’m thinking you are snarky Jess. What’s got your knickers all twisted?”

“Thinking about my knickers, lover boy?” She winks and licks her lips. I’m not sure if she means to be as sexy as she is, but I’m already at half-mast right now just looking at her.

“Thinking about taking them off, honestly,” I mumble quietly, adjusting my body to sit upright on the bed.

“What was that?” Her cheeks redden, and I mirror her emotion, embarrassed that she heard that little slip of the tongue. As she shuffles on her bed, her oversized hoodie slips off her shoulder for a second, showing me her soft, glowing skin. The sight of her looking so beautiful has my temperature rising.

Damn, do I wish I was in London right now.

“Nothing. Tell me what’s up.” I shake my head of any and all dirty thoughts because that’s not why I called her.

“I’m really okay. I just had a stupidly long day with a bridezilla who was looking down at me the whole time. I hated it. I felt repressed for not actively telling that woman to go the fuck away,” she rushes out. “Hazard of the job, though, I guess.”

“Well, I happen to like snarky Jess… I like all versions of Jess.”

Her smile widens at my words. “How was your day?”

“I managed to secure my first international contract, and it’s the biggest one we have on our books to date. I’m pretty sure my dad cried when I told him.”

“Liam, you should’ve led with that! God, that’s amazing,” she beams.

“It’s pretty big, hm?”

“I’m so proud of you.” Her smile beams from her.
