Three loud knocks on my door send my body into a flurry. My pulse picks up to Olympic swimmer speed, my breathing rapid, as I smooth my shaking hands down my cream jumper.

A gush of air breezes in as I open my door, immediately greeted by his beautiful, beaming smile. The kind that I’ve seen a thousand times before, but it hits differently now. Knowing he’s here for me because he wants to kiss me and be my boyfriend makes me feel all gooey inside.

“Hi,” he says, his voice trembling slightly.

I stare at him for a second, the way his white t-shirt hugs his biceps, which are pretty defined for a sixteen-year-old and his favourite black jeans wrap around his long legs perfectly sends my tummy flipping.

My heart makes a ruckus in my chest as his eyes roam over me too, before his arms reach out to pull me in for a hug.God, he smells good. Sweet, fresh and clean.

“Hi,” he mumbles into my hair.

I smile into his chest. “You said that already.”

He hums happily against me, sending shock waves through me as I tip my head upwards. He towers above me, and I have never been so glad to be short, or more correctly, the perfect size to snuggle into my 6-foot-plus boyfriend. God,boyfriend. I might need to say it a few more times, just to make sure.

Green and brown orbs blink owlishly at me. His thumb dusts over my cheek as his fingers fan the side of my head, holding me in place for what I long for. My stomach is filled with a thousand fireflies as he leans in, giving me a small peck of a kiss.

Oh.

Well, that wasn’t exactly what I’d hoped for. My disappointment is obviously written across my face, because he grins wickedly at me.

“Ready for milkshakes and movies?” he asks casually, as we step away from my front door.

I frown, trying to figure out if he’s messing with me or not. I’m pretty sure he’s messing with me. Trying to make me needy for him. Which I obviously am.

“Wasn’t there something else you said we could do, too?” I ask, whilst fluttering my eyelashes at him. Two can play this game.

He grins wolfishly, far too pleased with himself for teasing me.

“Oh, you mean this?” His arms wrap around me, pulling my body towards his easily, as if he has done this a thousand times, and presses our lips together. The oxygen evaporates from my lungs so quickly that it feels like it was never there in the first place, but I don’t dare breathe in because I don’t want this kiss to ever end. I’d happily run out of oxygen if I got to keep his soft, full lips pressing into mine. My whole body grips on to him like I’m on the precipice of a cliff, about to fall at any moment, and maybe I am. But maybe I’m ready to take the jump, as long as it’s with him.

This was the kind of kiss I would feel for a lifetime, echoing through my whole body, etched onto my lips forever.

I can’t tell you the exact moment when I fell for Liam Taylor, but this, right here, feels a lot like falling, fast and hard. A week ago we were just ‘Liam and Jess, friends-who-flirt’, but now that feeling is a million miles away, swept away by the presence of someone familiar but also new, occupying every cell in my body as if it were his to take all along.

I pull back to look at him and revel in his warm gaze, casting a spotlight on me. His soft brown hair flops forward and my fingers itch to run a path through the strands. His eyes flutter closed as my nails drag through his scalp, his hot breath skating across my cheek.

When his eyes open again, he beams at me. “Let’s go, Scotty. The movie starts in…” He flicks his wrist to check his watch. “Half an hour. You know how much I love the trailers.”

We walk hand in hand towards the cinema, car engines purring alongside us, horns beeping in the distance and children shouting and playing in the park echo around us in a distant symphony. A patch of dandelions catches my eye as we turn a corner. I lean down and pick one and hold it up to Liam. “Make a wish,” I say, thrusting it into his face.

Liam’s eyes crinkle as he smiles at me. I’m sure he's humouring me, but I like that he is.

His eyes close, as he sucks in air then puffs it out, making the tiny little fluffy seeds float around us before getting whipped away with the wind. When I look at Liam, his eyes are on me, like I’m the only person in the world.

“Want to know what I wished for?” he asks, letting his eyes drop to my lips.

I shake my head. “It won’t come true if you tell me.”

His lips turn upwards as he moves closer to my ear, his warm breath trickling down my spine. “Pretty sure it doesn’t matter. You’re already mine, anyway.”

Liam moves slowly, letting his lips skate over my jaw before locking eyes with me again. I run my hands across his neck and pull him in for another kiss, letting myself relax into him. As he pulls away, he doesn’t open his eyes but licks his lips like he’s committing my taste to his memory.

At this moment, I know that I will always want to be his for as long as he’ll let me.

Liam

Jessica Scott has well and truly put me under her spell. I mean, I’ve always been there, hanging off her every word, but now I can touch her and show her how much I like her. It’s giving me a power trip knowing that I’ve finally got the girl of my dreams.
