“Give me another one.” His voice demanding and full of lust, his fingers dig deliciously into my hip bones, fuelling my high. Before I can breathe, my body falls apart, completely at the mercy of his devil tongue.

“Liam, I … Oh my God. I’m coming…” I scream.

Liam

As I come out from the bathroom, Jess is still sprawled out on her bed, now sleeping peacefully. I could watch her sleep all day; the way her soft lips part, the gentle rise and fall of her chest and the almost undetectable snore that escapes every now and again. I feel that familiar squeeze in my chest. The way she moves, laughs, blushes, smiles, has me sporting heart eyes for her.

I want to lay down next to her and feel her warm body against mine, but I also don’t want to wake her. She looks happy, like she's dreaming. I grab my phone and set an alarm for thirty minutes to wake her, so she isn’t late for work.

I pull on my t-shirt and jeans I left here for emergencies after last time, and quietly make my way downstairs to find Nora in the kitchen making breakfast.

“Hey, Nor.”

“Hey.” She gestures to the granola she is making. “Do you want some? Wait, did you stay over last night? I don’t remember seeing you come in.” Her brows furrow.

“I’d love some, please. And no, I ran here this morning. She fell asleep whilst I showered and I didn’t want to wake her.” Nora pours me some granola and yoghurt, and I dive straight in.

The sweet and crunchy taste makes me nod in approval. “This is good. Did you make it?”

Nora nods as she crunches through her mouthful too.

We eat in comfortable silence we have always had.

“Hey, can I ask you something?”

“Sure.”

“Do you think Jess and her mum will ever reconcile?”

She stiffens slightly at the question, tension rolling off her shoulders. “That… I can’t say.”

“Okay.” I reply, not really sure what to say next.

“Why?”

“Just.... I’m not really sure what the situation is there. I don’t know.”

“Well, listen. That seems like more of a question for her, you know?” Nora says.

“Yeah. I guess… she’s just so…”

“Flighty? Absolutely terrified of talking about her mum? A nightmare to get to open up about anything actually important?”

“Right.” I force a laugh. Ignoring the guilt clawing at my throat.

“Honestly, Liam, I don’t know what she wants… She’s a closed book when it comes to her mum, even to me.”

I lean over the counter and hold Nora’s gaze. I hope this comes out right, but with my track record, it’s possible it might sound weird.

“Thank you for protecting her and looking after her all these years.”

Nora nods her head, smiling softly. “She’s my best friend, as well as my sister. I’d do anything for her.”

I know the feeling.

“Shoot, I’ve gotta go. See you later.” She places her bowl in the sink and just as she heads towards the door, she turns to face me again. “Try talking to her. Even if she’s scared to open up, you can plant the seed for the future. Let her know you’re there for her, no matter what.”

I nod my head, silently thanking Nora as she disappears, leaving me with completely conflicting emotions, swirling around like a problem in my head that I can’t solve.
