She turned her head so that her mouth was against his ear. “Can I call your dick the Big Easy?” she murmured, and he pulled her close and laughed softly.

“Such a mouthy Cinderella,” he growled “Even Prince Charming is a man, and as men we can’t argue with women calling our junk big.”

“Easy does it.” Her eyes twinkled.

“I can only be thankful you were on your almost best behavior at my parents’ house.”

She grinned. “Your family is delightful, and I love them already. Your sister. Can we talk about her sense of humor?”

“No, God, don’t. It’ll go to her head, and we have enough of her to deal with now.”

She giggled. “Such a sweet brother.”

He tightened his arms around her and buried his face in her neck, and he breathed her in, filled himself with the warm and lovely scent of her skin. “Enough about my sister. You feel so damn good.” He kissed her for a few minutes, his hands all over her, then they lay quietly for a few more.

“I think my mom is in love with you,” he said, toying with her hair.

“Why wouldn’t she be?” She rose up and propped herself on his chest. “I’m in love with her amazing son.”

He frowned and shook his head. “No that’s not it.”

“What then?” she asked, her eyes caressing his face.

“She’s just glad I have someone to do my dirty laundry.”

She threw her head back and laughed.

“Hey,” he said, “I saved your life, the least you can do is wash my dirty shorts.” She laughed some more then crawled on top of him and pulled one of those moves she’d introduced to him in a motel in Venezuela and passion took over.

He knew he’d found a love as strong and as beautiful as what his parents shared, found her in a hellhole halfway across the world, a place he’d never expected to fall in love. But the love they shared would see them through his deployments, and the fear, and the torture of the unknown. She would weather it all, and he would do his best to come back to her every time.

Hours later, she stirred and slid her arms around his neck, and he kissed her cheek. “I heard you say you love me back at Walter Reed. I thought I was dreaming, and every moment of being away from you was like torture,” he whispered in her ear and kissed her again, and he felt her soften against him. “But I knew you’d come back to me when all the dust settled in your life.”

“How did you know?”

“Because you told me, once upon a dream, babe.”

“There’s that damn Prince Charming,” she said with a wry laugh.

EPILOGUE

Hitchcock Residence,Willison, Florida

After getting a thorough lesson in scuba diving and an introduction on solid land about cave diving from Easy, Astraea just simply enjoyed her time with his family. His sister was precocious, his brother obviously Easy’s best friend, and his wonderful parents who were, after forty-plus years of marriage, still in love.

She got her back cracked by his dad, and she had no idea how good it would feel.

She got pampered by his mom with shopping and a glorious spa day.

She got covered in batter and icing making a cake with his sister.

She got a lesson in how to fireman carry a man bigger than herself from his brother, which required her to get her back cracked again. She’d never laughed so much in her life.

It wasn’t until her responsibilities in Virginia were calling, and Easy’s medical leave was up that she woke him early one morning and told him she needed to talk to him. They drove to the beach as the sun was rising. It was gorgeous and a perfect backdrop to begin a new phase of her life.

“So, I got a large settlement from PAY-TV,” she said.

He grinned. “Excellent. Those bastards needed to pay.”
