“You’re not telling me everything,”Max said as he watched Anna as she slipped the enchiladas into the oven. She was serving the meal they had their first night together, sans the drunkenness, to celebrate with their parents.

“Contrary to Max’sLaws of Everything, I don’t have to tell you everything. Let’s just say I realized exactly how much she needed you and why you would want to save her.”

He grunted, and she stepped closer, slipping her hands up and over his chest to his shoulders.

“And it made me even more thankful that you are my man.”

He studied her as she smiled up at him. She was his everything, and why he ever thought he would survive without her, he didn’t know.

“You’re damned fantastic.”

“I know.”

He chuckled as he leaned down to kiss her. He had planned a quick kiss, but it soon got out of control. Max was seriously contemplating sex on the kitchen counter—it wouldn’t be the first time with them—but the doorbell interrupted them.

He pulled back and drew in a long breath. “Our parents are cock blockers.”

She laughed and patted his chest. “Also, Cynthia’s going to be at the wedding. I insisted today.”

Anna dropped that bomb, then spun away to answer the door. He grabbed her by the wrist to tug her closer.

“What did you do?”

“I insisted she come. Don’t worry, Maxwell. It will all work out as long as we’re together.”

As she hurried off to answer the door, he spent a couple of seconds blinking, trying to get his brain to catch up. Then, a smile curved his mouth as he shook his head. Leave it up to Anna to explain it in terms that warmed his soul.

He shoved back his worries. She was right, he thought as he walked toward the front door. As long as they were together, they could handle anything.

Light Hawaiian tradewinds were shifting through the open-air hotel bar as the woman, who called herself Gennifer, slid onto a stool. It was moderately busy for a hotel bar in the middle of the day, especially one in Hawaii.

Gennifer slid a blonde curl back over her shoulder and smiled at the bartender who approached her. He was at least five years younger than she was. When she grinned at him, he blinked, then a slow, sweet smile curved his lips.

Too young, she thought. But he definitely fit the part. He was in excellent shape, from the way the light cotton fabric stretched across his shoulders. From his skin tone and his facial features, Gennifer could tell he had some Hawaiian heritage.

“Afternoon, what’s your poison?”

Lord, she loved that Hawaiian accent.

“Good afternoon,” she said. “A strawberry margarita—heavy on the margarita.”

He winked. “You got it.”

“How long have you been on the island?” he asked.

“Just got in late last night.”

“Long flight?”

She nodded. “Everything’s a long flight to Hawaii, but definitely worth it.”

When he was done with the blender, he poured the concoction into a glass, then set it in front of her.

“I detect some Georgia in your voice.”

She nodded. “Born and bred. And thank you.”
