“So? What do you say?”

She paced the room for a moment, but I felt confident that I already knew her answer. When she looked over at me and smiled, it was like the whole world froze for a moment.

“Okay. Let’s do it. It’ll be fun.”

“I’ll change our flights.”

She disappeared back into the bathroom to finish getting ready, and I picked up my phone to adjust our flights and hotel reservation. I figured while I was at it that I might as well reserve us a table at the nicest restaurant at the resort. I was going to show Grace a good time, no matter the cost.

Grace went downto brunch first, and I trailed behind a few minutes later. I knew Ella was still pissed at me, so I tried to lay low as much as I could. I found a seat at a table in the corner, but it was full of other people before I even realized what was happening.

“So, Dylan, who’s the girl?” a man I had never spoken to asked.

“Is she here? Is she one of Ella’s friends?” a woman asked.

“Are you going to propose to her?” someone else called.

I stood from the table without saying a word and walked outside. The breeze coming off the ocean was cool, but the air was already warm. I couldn’t wait for all of these snoops to be gone so I could enjoy my time with Grace in peace. I was ready for a real vacation with my girlfriend.

I heard someone walking down the pathway towards me, and I turned to see Jonas dressed in an all-white suit with a pale blue shirt underneath.

“Hey, man. Looking good,” I said, patting him on the back.

“Thanks,” he muttered.

“Jonas, I just want to apologize for last night. I shouldn’t have said what I said, and I know it kind of ruined your night.”

“It didn’t ruin my night. I mean, Ella was pretty upset about it, but I think she’s mostly forgotten about it now.”

“Really?”

“Well, no. I don’t think she’ll ever really forget about it, but we had a long talk and she decided not to let it ruin our weekend or our honeymoon.”

“So, she’s going to hold this against me forever, right?”

“Oh, definitely. But not today.”

I forced a smile, but I was not too thrilled about this news. I knew it would take Ella some time to forgive me, but part of me thought she may have seen the bigger picture by now and realized it wasn’t that big of a deal, after all.

“You coming in for brunch?”

“Yeah, I’ll be right there.”

Jonas walked back up to the hotel and I took a deep breath before following behind him. When I stepped inside, Grace and Ella were at the front of the room, holding hands and talking like they always do. I hemmed and hawed for a moment, trying to figure out if I should go up to them or wait for Grace to leave.

“Dylan! Over here!” Ella called to me with a smile.

I clenched my jaw, nervously anticipating what she was about to say to me. As I approached them, it took everything in my power not to wrap my arm around Grace or kiss her pink cheek.

“Hey, Ella. You look really nice in that dress,” I said hesitantly.

She was wearing a white dress with pale blue flowers on it, exactly the same shade as Jonas’ shirt. Something told me that the coordination was not his idea.

“I know,” she said with a smirk.

Grace laughed and elbowed Ella in the side.

“Well, it’s true. I look phenomenal in this.”
