The woman grinned. “Okay. Let me get with her. Just give me a minute, please.”

“Sure thing, darlin’,” he said and grinned when she smiled at him.

He sat on the bench and waited, then got to his feet when Cin entered the room, and his heart hit his stomach as it always did when she was near.

“Hi, Rhett. I’m sorry about that. I didn’t put you in the computer because I figured I’d be dealing with you,” Cin said.

“Dealing with me? What a way to put it, Cin.”

A blush moved into her cheeks, and he grinned. She had copper-colored hair, light green eyes, and porcelain skin. They’d been friends for years.

“You know what I mean. If you want to bring your dogs in, I’ll open a couple of cages.”

“Yes, ma’am,” he said as he touched the brim of his cowboy hat and walked out the door.

“Holy hell. That man is gorgeous,” Tiffany said from beside her.

“Yes,” Lucinda murmured. Erin had her looking at Rhett as a man instead of a friend.

“Is he single?”

“Uh, yeah.”

“He sure can fill out a pair of jeans,” Tiffany stated.

Lucinda looked at her. “Please go open two pens. Side by side.”

“Uh, okay.”

She knew Tiffany was looking at her and wondering why she had her do it when Lucinda said she would.

The door opened, and Rhett entered with his dogs on leashes. Lucinda smiled at the pretty dogs. She kneeled to pet them.

“Hi, Willie. Hi, Waylon,” she said as she laughed.

“They’re not going to be happy with me,” Rhett said with a chuckle.

She looked up at him, and her breath hitched.

“They won’t even miss you in a day.”

“You certainly know how to make me feel good, Cin. Deal with me. My dogs won’t miss me… anything else?”

Lucinda laughed as she got to her feet. “I’ll let you know. Let me take them back.” She reached for the leashes.

“Do you need my help?”

“No, thanks. I deal with dogs all day. I know how to handle them.”

“All right.” Rhett handed her the leashes. “I’ll see you in a week.”

“Where are you going? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“To Wyoming to see my family for the holiday.”

“Oh, that’s right. They moved there a few years ago, didn’t they?”
