I bit my lip, considering that. It might put him behind, and I knew from experience how stressful that was. Maybe...

“If you wanted, we could go to your house. I don’t work tomorrow.” I offered, and he tipped his head.

“You sure you’d be alright with that?”

I nodded, and he shrugged. “Alright, then pack whatever you want to bring. You want to drive your car so you have a way back after I go to work, or do you want me to drop you off?”

I considered it for a second, and then answered. “I’ll take mine, just in case.” Then, with palpable reluctance, I got off him. He smiled, complete understanding behind his eyes as he too got up.

“We can go back to cuddling when we get home. Trust me, I won’t complain.”

Some of the reluctance faded and I moved for my room, pulling out my duffle bag as I did. I’d only need pajamas and tomorrow’s clothing. Though maybe I should bring my shower things too…

Throwing those in just in case, I looked over the contents of the bag before nodding. That should do it. Pulling the bag over my shoulder, I turned to see Oliver leaning on the doorway, taking in the room with curious eyes.

Nerves inched through me before I shoved them down. Seeing my room was far less intimate than what we’d done on the couch.

Despite that highly logical thought, my stomach rolled with every second that he hovered in the doorway. After a minute, he smiled and looked at me.

“Your room suits you perfectly.”

I hadn’t had a lot of time to make it how I wanted it, but the bookshelves, art supplies haphazardly strewn over the desk, and various pieces of paper floating around did encompass me pretty well.

The fact he thought so too brought on another wave of warmth.

“Thanks. To be honest, with the whole Harvey thing I wasn’t sure if I’d be staying long, so I was afraid to get too many things.”

His smile fell, as if only just now realizing something, and he straightened off the doorframe. “Are you going to move back once he’s caught?”

A hint of disappointment and alarm lingered under his tone, and it took me a second to realize why that was. When it hit though, I bit my lip. I hadn’t really considered it lately, but maybe I should have before we’d gotten as far as we had into the relationship talk.

Sitting on the bed, I sighed. “I’m not sure. At first that was the plan, mostly because everything back home is familiar, but now I’m starting to set roots here too. I have no family back there, and for the most part, I never hung out with friends either. Just Harvey.”

I didn’t want to leave him and what we were growing now either. It was new, but there was so much potential. I’d never met someone like Oliver before, and I wanted to see where this went.

If I decided to go back home, what would happen between us? Would we break things off? Maybe try the whole long-distance thing?

The thought of the latter curdled my stomach. After sleeping in his arms once, I didn’t want to give that up for phone calls and minimal physical contact.

If the frown he wore now was any indication, he didn’t like the thought either.

After a loaded minute, he sat next to me on the bed, one of his hands between us, palm up as he bit his lip. “I’m not very objective, but I hope you choose to stay.”

Eyeing his hand for a beat, I took it, squeezing for both our comfort with another sigh. “Is it weird that I kind of want to? Despite only being here for a little bit and only really knowingyouin town, I like it here.”

It was nice, not having the hustle of a bigger city, and I wasn’t afraid to say the calmer atmosphere suited me just fine.

But I knew the real reason I’d be staying if that was my choice. It was Oliver. He was the deciding factor in this and that was scary. We’d only just started this thing between us and now I was considering staying here forhim.

That was insane, right?

Most people would never even contemplate something like this.

His hand tightened around mine, pulling me back to the present. He was looking at me now, hope and something I couldn’t name warming his eyes.

“Hypothetically, if you were to choose today, what would you decide?”

I only had to think about it a second before the truth slipped out. “I would stay.”
