“I sincerely overestimated my restraint when I offered to share a bed with you. That and I didn’t realize you’d be wearingthat. While I won’t do anything you don’t want, you should know that I can’t help this.” He gestured to his groin, which was already filling out.

A flush of power swirled over me that I could do that to him without even trying. I’d never gotten this kind of rush from arousing Harvey before.

Staring up at him, I took in the heat steadily pulsing behind his eyes. I believed him when he said he wouldn’t do anything I didn’t want, and I wasn’t ready for more than what we already did.

That being said, I flicked a glance to his groin and shrugged. “It’s just a natural body function, and to be honest, I like that I can have that effect on you.” He blinked, surprise clear and I realized how that sounded. Heat slapped across my cheeks and I quickly added on.

“I’m not happy that you’re uncomfortable, since walking around aroused is probably not what you’d prefer, but the fact that I don’t have to do anything for you to like me makes me feel-.” I cut myself off, not wanting to finish that sentence.

It made me feel wanted, special, and strong, as if I could take on the world.

His eyes softened and he bent, kissing my head with a low hum. “It’s fine, Jen. You don’t have to be embarrassed, I understand. I felt the same way when I was between your thighs earlier, and there’s no shame in it.”

Some of the heat to my cheeks eased and I relaxed, taking the hand he offered and cuddling into him. His hand settled on the base of my spine and rested there, not drifting to certain other areas, despite my lack of clothes.

His chin rested on top of my head and we stood still, basking in the quiet warmth of the moment. After a long beat, I pulled back and tugged on my nightgown. Oliver’s eyes were like twin weights on me, and I faced him with a smile.

“Are you ready to head to bed?” I asked and he nodded, pausing long enough to strip his shirt. Clear skin and toned muscles met my eyes, and I was reaching out before I could stop myself. Pressing my palm flat against his chest, I focused on the thrum of his heartbeat.

He chuckled, breaking me from my almost trance-like state as he hooked an arm around my shoulders and guided me to his room with a smile.

“Come on, you can keep that up once we’re both in bed.” I followed without complaint, waiting for him to get in before hovering at the bedside. Should I take the empty spot on the bed or curl against him how I preferred?

He must have seen my indecision because he lifted the blankets and patted his chest with a grin. “It’s up to you where you sleep, but I personally would prefer you lying here.”

Decision made, I shuffled under the blankets and let my head rest over his heart. This time, instead of feeling the pulse under my hand, I heard it, and the steady booms dragged me just that much closer to the bliss of sleep.

He tugged the blanket around us, his arm pressing against my waist as he kissed my head and sighed. “Is this okay?”

I let out a sleepy hum of agreement, snaking an arm under his back to halfway embrace him. “Very,” I said and he smiled, squeezing me.

“That’s good, because if you’d be willing, I could see this becoming a normal thing with us.”

Lying here in our own little bubble, away from the world ,andblissfullyhappy? Yes, please. Not saying that, I nodded, speaking through a yawn. “You’ll get no complaints from me.”

His fingers dug gently into my back, finding and massaging out all the knots there until I was a puddle of content goo against him. Sleep slid through my shields, making my thoughts fuzzy and sluggish, and just before I slipped into it, I heard Oliver.

“You’re going to be dangerous; I can already feel myself sinking deeper for you.”

I didn’t have the energy to respond or even question if I’d heard that right before everything faded away, and I knew nothing.

Chapter 13

Something heavy and warm was pressing me into the mattress.

That was the first thing I noticed upon waking up; the next was that it wasbreathing. Cracking an eye open, I took in Oliver and the soft snores he occasionally let out. Memories came back slowly and when I remembered where we were, I smiled.

He’d brought me back to his house and now that I wasn’t exhausted, I could take in the room.

There was a sports poster of some football player hanging on the wall, his name unfamiliar, and on the shelves there were various knick-knacks and pictures. One I could make out sat on his nightstand, and it seemed to be a family photo.

He stood at the center with a man and woman on either side of him, their hair graying as they wore matching proud smiles. The man had the same jaw and eyes as Oliver, but the woman had his smile.

They must be his parents.

Oliver was wearing a party hat, the big banner behind him announcing it as his birthday, and Sara stood to one side with two other women. On his father’s side was one man, his arms crossed with a small, but genuine smile curling his lips. They all shared their mother’s dark hair and smile. He’d never mentioned his other siblings; maybe I’d ask him about them later.

Focusing back on him, I took in his expression. His mouth was open a bit, and at some point last night, he’d shifted to lie next to me on the pillow.
