“Stubborn woman,” Trek mutters as he follows her.

“Well, looks like this will be an interesting group,” Love quips with a smile. “Here comes Drez.” My head snaps around towards the kitchen, and I see him approaching, his eyes roaming over my body before he finally meets my eyes.

“Morning, Drez,” Love greets as she hurries past him towards the kitchen, leaving me alone with him, the rascal.

“Morning,” he replies, but his eyes do not leave mine. “How did you sleep?”

“So well that I didn’t even hear you snore.”

He frowns. “I don’t snore.”

“Are you sure?” I quip as I turn to make my way outside, hearing him sigh as he follows me.

“Here.” Looking over my shoulder, I see him holding out a fig bag. Turning, I stop and take the bag that has been made out of fig leaves and dried out with a special oil to harden them so that they don’t tear when it is stitched together with fine silk sourced from the silk worms. Looking inside, I smile; he has filled it up with fruit.

“Thank you.” He nods but does not comment as he looks over his shoulder as Love and Shok walk out the door with Beast following them.

“How far is it from here?” Love asks as they join us.

“It’s about an hour’s walk,” Trek says as he and Hope join us. I see Hope is still wearing her shorts, and Trek looks less than pleased. One thing he will find out about Hope is that she is as stubborn as a mule and nothing changes her mind unless she wants to change it.

“What happened when you went to find it before?” I ask as we make our way through the forest. Trek and Drez are leading the group, with Shok at the back.

“We tried to go as close as possible, but the sound is excruciating. We had to give up after a while.”

“Do you have a plan today?” Hope asks.

“We try to get as close as possible and then get Love to start singing. We are hoping that the sound of her voice will start to drive that sound into itself. We also noticed that the vegetation is very dense when we were trying to approach. That is where you come in, Hope,” Shok replies.

“Looks like you just came along for the walk,” Love quips as she pokes me in the shoulder. I look back at her and pull a face, which has her grinning.

“No, we noticed that through the vegetation, it was really dark. Maybe as Hope moves the vegetation, it will brighten, but if not, we will need Dream to light the way.”

“You hear that?” Love quips. “You are lighting the way, Dream.”

“You’re full of chirps today, aren’t you?” I state, grinning at her playful mood.

“We must be getting close,” Hope interrupts. “I can feel the earth’s agitation.”

Thinking back, I’m not surprised. If that sound penetrates the earth like it was penetrating us, then everything around that area must be dying with the spiked vibrations it transmits.

“Is it my imagination, Drez, or is the area that the sound is reaching growing?” Shok asks as we start hearing a faint sound in the distance.

“It’s growing,” Drez replies as he stops. “Love, you should start wielding your music spell.”

“Okay, I really hope this works,” she says before she closes her eyes for a minute before she starts humming.

“Listen, everyone, listen to the whisper of Love.

Let your hearts open to the brightness that explodes within,

Let your souls float in a pink sea of promise,

A sea of caring, of heart-warming goodness

That radiates around you.

Let your inner light shine, shine, shine.
