“What did he mean?” I ask, frowning. Taking my hand as he stands and helps me up, Drez guides me a few steps away from the others and then faces me. I stand before him, looking up into his handsome face as strokes his fingers through his hair—a sign of nervousness, something I have noticed before but that he doesn’t do often.

“There is a reason I was sent to Eternity Fae,” he starts by saying, and I realize that he hasn’t let go of my hand, which has warmth radiating from him up my arm and through my body.

“Yes, as one of our guards,” I say, inclining my head.

“No,” he says as he shakes his head. “As your protector.”

I tense. What does that mean?

“The first time I went with our sovereigns to Eternity Fae and met you, I knew.”

“What?” He is making no sense.

“That you are mine.” I feel my heart lurch. “You are my mate, Dream.”

What? My mind goes blank.

“I told the sovereigns when we got back here that you are my mate, and they assigned me to you, asking me to only tell you when it was time.”

“We’re mates?” I ask, and he smiles at my bemused expression.

“Yes, we are.” He lifts his hand to the side of my face, stroking it gently. “And I have wanted to do this for the longest time.” I see his head lowering to mine. Even if I wanted to run, my legs wouldn’t cooperate. When his lips touch mine for the first time, it’s like an explosion of feelings, of memories rushing through my mind, my body. All this time, I loved Drez and he loved me back. I know that our journey is just beginning and these are turbulent times, but with him at my side, we can conquer any evil that comes our way.
