Callan was headlining the concert. The first event had been small, but had still raised a ton of money for underprivileged athletes in the Nashville area. One of last year’s recipients was scheduled to speak about what his scholarship meant to him. There were several other teens mingling with the crowd, each carrying something that represented their sport. And every single one of them dressed like it was prom, but wearing the sneakers Callan had sent to them.

He'd asked me to design a card from him to the kids, even though we weren’t working together, and you bet I accommodated that request. I showed him what I’d come up with, and he’d asked me to include a free download link for his latest single, “I’ll Wait”. Would every kid take him up on that offer? Maybe. Maybe not. I’d teased him that he might have more luck garnering that audience if he turned it into a hip hop or rap single. I’d laughed when he clutched his heart and pretended like I’d mortally wounded him. He let me make reparations for my ‘insult’ by accepting a blow job in that arm chair in his bedroom. That chair was getting a real workout, and was fast becoming my favorite piece of furniture in his house.

“What you thinking about?” Naomi asked. “You have kind of a dopey smile on your face.”

She looked so pretty tonight. We’d shopped for dresses together at a tiny boutique in Pineridge, where I knew the media would leave us alone. She’d found a teal cocktail dress that exactly matched the shade of the logo for Raised Right.

I’d picked a beaded black midi-length dress with a high neckline, but a plunging back and a thigh-high slit on the left side. Callan had told me that was his favorite dress, but it was going to look so much better on the floor later on.

“I’m thinking Callan is more than the hole.”

She tipped her head. “The whole what?”

“The doughnut hole.”

Naomi squealed and threw her arms around her. If this was her reaction to me telling her how right Callan was for me, the perfect man, I was almost giddy thinking about the look on her face when I slipped on the ring currently at the bottom of my beaded clutch.

Probably very close to the look on my face when Callan had dropped to one knee just yesterday and surprised me with his proposal. He’d said he’d waited long enough now.

Considering our relationship started with a song about waiting, I thought his timing and his question were spot on.

And you bet I said yes.

I loved this man more than I could say. More than I knew how to put into words.

Tonight, when he took the stage, his plan was to invite me to join him, along with my parents and brothers, who’d flown in yesterday, and announce to the world, and all these glamorous Nashville people, that we were truly starting our life together.

And to think this all started because I had his dad’s old number.
