“Who needs to get used to it? Our families won’t object, that much I know, and we’ve already seen the worst of it with the Stallions. Who else is there?” I pick up a strand of her hair and twirl it around my fingers.

“Ryan. Hollie. And you’re still a public figure. If the news of you leaving hasn’t hit yet, it will, and that will bring a lot of attention your way, especially if the reason you left comes out.”

“Let it come out. I’m not going to live my life worrying what other people think about us.”

“What if the backlash isn’t limited to the Stallions? What if you can’t find something else?” She lifts her head to look at me, a cute little crease separating her brows.

“I doubt the Stallions are going to divulge specific details since they’re so worried about it becoming a scandal, and even if they do, it won’t have much impact. I made enough that I don’t have to work again, and if I want something to do there’s always working with Pop. I have zero concerns about what people think or how it will impact me. Are you worried about impacting your career?”

“No. I’m not in the public eye.” She gives a little shake of her head. “Should we start telling people though? Just in case word does get out, we probably want to give our family and friends a heads up. That might make it easier for them to accept.”

Her stomach growls again.

“I’m going to go order us some food, and then we’ll talk about giving people a heads up.” I lean in to kiss her, intending to give her a sweet little peck, but her lips are so soft I can’t limit myself to a slight taste.

She opens her mouth to mine, and I take advantage, sweeping my tongue over hers as I cup the back of her head and hold her close. The now familiar tingle of desire causes my cock to stir, and I’m just about to roll on top of her again when a voice shouts, “What the fuck?”

I pull back and turn to see Ryan standing in the doorway, mouth hanging open. I’m vaguely aware of Sawyer pulling the sheet over her chest to cover herself as his eyes dart back and forth between us. After what feels like an eternity, he gives a little shake of his head and turns toward the living room.

“Guess we’re telling them now.” I run a hand over my face and reach for my shorts. This time the kiss I give Sawyer is brief so I can catch Ryan before he leaves.

I don’t have to go far. He’s retreated to the garage, where I find him pulling a beer out of the fridge that got moved out here from the kitchen. He grabs another one when he sees me coming.

“So.” He hands me the can. “You’re really going there with your sister?”

“Step-sister.” I correct out of habit. “But come on, we both know that label is misleading.” I pop open the beer and take a sip.

“Fine.” He takes his own sip. “How long?”

“Eight years.”

Beer flies out of his mouth before he can swallow it. “Are you shittin’ me?” He wipes the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand. “That would mean…in high school? While she was living with you? Damn.”

“That’s when it started. We haven’t been together since I left for school though.”

“How do you get eight years then?”

“That’s how long I’ve been in love with her.” I rub my chest to calm the panic building there. Ryan’s acceptance won’t change things for me, but Sawyer seems to think we need it, so I have to handle this right.

He looks at me critically, gauging my seriousness, and what he should say next. “You never said anything.”

“She didn’t need that kind of scrutiny back in high school, and I wasn’t sure I could get her back until recently.”

“How recently?”

“A few days.”

“That’s why you were so adamant about not wanting me to date her,” he says more to himself than me. “You wanted her for yourself.”

There’s no point denying that, so I don’t. “What are you doing here?”

“I can’t show up to hang out with my best friend--check out how things are coming along?” He avoids my question.”How was I supposed to know you’d be balls deep?”

“I mean how did you end up in my bedroom? I didn’t hear you come in.”

“You were preoccupied. I knocked and shouted, knew you were here since I saw the cars. I just didn’t realize you had company.”

“She’s not company.”
