The sky was a perfect shade of blue dotted only with a few fluffy clouds. He spread his hands out and beamed. ‘It will be such a perfect wedding.’

‘Hopefully this weather will hold for them.’

‘The voice of doom,’ he said, laughing. ‘Even if it doesn’t, we can just move the ceremony inside; they will still have the view.’

Amy gulped in the fresh, salty air. ‘You’ve thought of everything haven’t you?’

‘Well, you know me. Always prepared.’

Amy thought briefly about their short romance in their final year of school. ‘Always prepared’ was something that he always said. She blushed as her mind took her to those heady evenings on the beach where they would stay all night with friends. They would find a secluded spot and . . .

‘Penny for them?’ he asked.

His eyes were twinkling, and she wondered if he was sharing the same memory. Amy blushed, thinking about the synchronicity of thoughts. ‘Oh nothing.’

He turned and she followed him back up the steps and they paused to admire the view afresh.

‘It really is a magical spot. And that air. It just smells like home.’

James looked at his watch.

‘Oh, sorry I’m keeping you,’ said Amy.

He shook his head. ‘I have a meeting in half an hour but have time for a quick coffee if you fancy?’

‘Sure, but only if you have time.’

‘I do.’ He smiled and Amy felt herself blush again. What was wrong with her?

‘You take a seat and I’ll go and get it. What would you like? Coffee? Tea?’

‘Um, I’ll have an almond latte please, if you have it?’

‘Of course. Coming right up.’

James returned moments later with two mugs. ‘There you go. Looks like Steve and Kirsty have found themselves a quiet spot in the café.’

‘Yes, they’ll be making the most of that as it doesn’t often happen.’ She took a small sip of the coffee. ‘I can’t believe that you are here, and this is what you are now doing. Who would have thought?’

He laughed. ‘Funny how things turn out isn’t it?’

‘True.’

‘Did you think you’d be living in Vancouver?’

‘No, that was all very unexpected, and I suppose a bit rebellious of me.’

‘How come?’

‘Well, I had a very respectable job,’ she said rolling her eyes when she said ‘respectable’. ‘I was working for a big accountancy firm, and they sent me over for a conference. Within days I had fallen in love with the place.’

He raised an eyebrow and took a sip of coffee.

‘I went home and decided to move there permanently.’

‘So where did the yoga come from?’

‘I always loved it, and as work got more and more stressful, I turned to my yoga practice more often. It was the thing that kept me grounded and sane. I just decided to go for it and turn it into my new career.’ She sighed and paused. ‘It was a lifeline for me, even more so when Mum died. It helped me cope with her loss.’
