‘Look, can I help you?’ he said, his voice softening. ‘You seem lost.’

‘I’m fine.’

‘You sure?’

She nodded.

‘All right, if you insist.’ He sauntered off in the direction of the terminal.

Meanwhile, Amelia almost punched the air when she saw her phone finally had a signal.

‘Hello, is that Edie?’

‘It is.’

‘Hi. This is Amelia . . . erm, I’m here.’

‘That’s wonderful news,’ Edie said warmly.

‘Are you still able to meet me?’

‘Oh dear. No, I’m afraid not. Car trouble . . .’

Super, thought Amelia.Now what?

‘He should be waiting for you.’

‘Who?’

‘Fergus.’

‘Who’s Fergus?’

‘A friend. He said he would come and get you and bring you to the village. He’ll be there any minute. You can’t miss him. I told him to check inside.’

Amelia turned to watch the man she had just exchanged cross words with walking back towards her.

‘He’s quite easy on the eye, if you know what I mean.’ Edie chuckled. ‘He drives a van. An orange camper van. You can’t miss him.’

Amelia’s cheeks flushed.Could this day get any better?

Chapter Three

‘You must be Fergus?’ said Amelia.

‘And you’re Amelia?’ He raised an eyebrow. ‘Though I must say you don’t quite fit Edie’s description.’

‘Oh. Why, who were you looking for?’

‘Hmm, going by what she said, an older woman who may look slightly knackered and in need of a holiday.’

Amelia couldn’t help laughing. Her new employer was certainly correct with her comment. ‘Well . . . I’m not quite sure what to say. She might be right.’ Just at that moment another drop of water ran across her forehead and down her nose.

He chuckled. ‘Don’t worry, Edie never has been good on details. She tends to make things up as she goes along. I’m Fergus. Nice to meet you.’

‘Amelia,’ she said. Should she try to shake his hand? She couldn’t help but notice his dark eyes and strong stubble-covered jaw.

‘Come on, we’re over here.’ He pointed at the VW van. ‘Can I help you with your things?’
