“Yes, he’s my brother. And so kindly don’t do it on the kitchen counter where I can find you because then I’ll have to wash my eyes out with bleach. But West is lonely, you’re lonely, and it might not solve all your problems, but some casual sex might do you both the world of good.”

“Are you really telling me to sleep with your brother?”

“Why not? You guys have been undressing each other with your eyes for weeks now. So just lay out some ground rules, don’t get caught by anyone, and then when you’re ready, walk away. As a bonus, given how determined my brothers are, I’m sure he’ll make you really, really happy too.”

I groaned and put my face in my hands. “Did you really just say that?”

“If he wasn’t my brother, I’d say more. But because he is, vague descriptions are all you’re getting from me.” She pointed her fork at me. “And don’t even think of crowing about his dick after the fact. Talk to Katie or Amber about that, please and thank you.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all.

But could I do it, was the question. Maybe that was all West was looking for anyway—a casual hookup. He’d made no bones about never wanting to marry again. And he sure as hell wouldn’t want to date if he wasn’t serious, given his kids.

It could be dangerous, and yet the thought of all that warm, muscled man naked and over me made me shiver.

Abby said, her voice softer this time, “Just think about it, Emmy. We will forever disagree about what you deserve. But just promise me you’ll think about it, okay?”

After a long moment, I nodded. “I will.”

“Good. Now, have you heard back from Nolan’s movie-star friend about planning her wedding?”

Work was neutral ground, and I could’ve hugged Abby for moving us back to safe territory. “No, although Zara promised to give me an answer by next week.”

“Don’t worry, Emmy. You’ll get it. No one can plan country or rustic weddings like you can.”

Considering how Zara was marrying her college sweetheart—who was from Texas—I was surprised she’d want something in Sonoma. The feelings and atmosphere between the two places were vastly different.

But Nolan had recommended me, had shown Zara some pictures of past ceremonies, and she’d been charmed. She was from Los Angeles originally and had mentioned how she couldn’t stand the heat of Texas in the summer, and she wanted a summer wedding for next year.

I’d used the cooler weather as a stepping stone and put together the best proposal ever to try and win her. Because getting the super popular and famous Zara Jones as a client would launch my business to a whole other level.

I finally replied, “Well, I can’t do anything but wait for her answer, at this point. Although I thought maybe we could talk a little more about our expo cross-promo between Starry Wolfe wine and Starry Dreams Events and Weddings.”

And so for the remainder of dinner, I forgot about West, our kiss, and Abby’s suggestion.

By the time I returned to the hotel room, West snored on the way-too-small cot, somehow still looking sexy with his mouth open and making a racket. Part of me was relieved he was already asleep, but another part of me wondered if talking with him again would sway my decision one way or the other about hooking up. My vagina screamed yes, for the love of everything, do it. My brain, however, cautioned it was a bad idea.

Except given how I dreamed of West bending me over the bed and taking me hard from behind, smacking my ass as he did it, I had a feeling I knew which way the wind blew.

Only if he agreed to rules and boundaries, though. I mean, if he was lonely, then me having sex with him would make him happy, right? And that was always my goal?

Stop kidding yourself.I’d be happy too.

But it wouldn’t be permanent. So I could justify it, through my weird web of logic.

The hard part would be suggesting it to him.

ChapterTwenty-Four

Weston

Me:Once we get home, can we grab drinks at The Watering Hole?

Abby:Um, okay. Why? You always go with Beck.

Me:Never mind.

Abby:No! Don’t do that. Of course I’ll go. But only if I get to order you a fruity cocktail and you promise to drink it.
