The peace didn’t last, however, as my purse vibrated strongly, over and over, meaning someone was calling me.

West nuzzled the top of my head. “Do you have a remote-controlled vibrator in there?”

I snorted and opened my eyes. “You wish.” I hesitated and then thought screw it, and let the devil in me say, “I have one, though, and it can be fun.”

As my phone continued to ring, West merely groaned—no doubt thinking of what I might do with said vibrator—and I maneuvered myself off his lap. His hand followed me, touching me as long as possible until I walked too far way.

I instantly felt cold and as if I was missing something.

My purse stilled, and I took out my phone. “Damn. Three missed calls from Abby and like ten text messages.”

I opened the texts and read them:

Abby:Want to meet up for lunch?

Abby:Emmy? Where’d you go?

Abby:Did you finally seduce my brother?

Abby:I don’t want details but just a yes or no.

Abby:Okay, I’m assuming yes.

Abby:Hmm, are you getting married in secret?

Abby:If you won’t answer, then I’ll just guess. I think you want Elvis to walk you down the aisle. They do that in Reno too? I think?

Abby:If Beck finds out about this before me through West, I’ll never forgive you.

Abby:I will. Maybe. But don’t get too distracted by D.

Abby:Ugh, I can’t believe I had to say that about my brother. Seriously, you owe me. And I’m going to even, gasp, call you now.

By the end, I was laughing. Abby and I usually answered each other quickly, especially at events we worked together.

That she’d guessed some of it—the hooking up part—didn’t surprise me.

West pressed up behind me. He placed his hands on my hips and set his chin on my shoulder. “What’s so funny?”

“Abby.” I sobered a bit. “She’s guessed about us, West. Just so you know.”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less. You two have always been thick as thieves.”

Even if he’d never said it aloud, I knew he regretted the years he’d been gone, missing the chance to see his siblings grow up. His pained looks whenever Abby shared a memory were hard to miss. Well, at least for me.

I had been watching the damn man too closely for months now.

My phone luckily had that feature where it’d put the text of the voicemail for you to see. While not perfect, her calls basically matched her texts, except for one crucial detail. I swore.

West asked, “What?”

“Abby met the flower supplier I’ve been dying to talk with. The company I use now is great for simpler weddings but wouldn’t be able to handle bigger events.” I paused, biting my lip, debating if I should tell him about my plans.

Then he squeezed my hips. “Tell me.”

I turned to face him. “Well, I’m trying to land a wedding from one of Nolan’s friends, a famous movie star. And if she signs with me, I’ll need a company who can handle things on a much grander scale.”

He nodded. “Then you should go meet with this company.”
