How do I know you’re not lying to me?

Do you want me to stop?

A nip that had her grind harder against him. She clutched his head like a lifeline.

No.

Good.

He unbuttoned her blouse and left a trail of fire as he kissed down her chest until he reached her breast. Her stomach muscle quivered with anticipation and impatience while he pushed away her bra. When he closed his mouth over her hardened nipple, his tongue swirling over the sensitive nub, her breath burst out of her in a sharp gasp.

“Felix.” His name was a prayer on her lips, for only he could torture her with the unbearable pleasure yet make her crave for more.

Gabby.

She froze.Nikolas?

Felix stopped what he was doing and lifted his head. His pupils were dilated, his bright emerald eyes tinged red with lust.

“What is it?” he growled, sensing her distraction.

Maria is missing.

Chapter Eighteen

Mariaismissing.

Nikolas might as well have dumped a bucket of cold water over Gabby. She shoved up away from Felix and scrambled to her feet.

“I have to go.”

“What?” The shock on his face would’ve been funny under different circumstances. It was a rare sight to catch him off guard. The surprise was gone in a second, replaced with stormy anger as he said, “A simple no would’ve sufficed.”

Ugh. Insufferable male. “Not everything is about you, or us.” In a less frustrated tone, she said, “Maria is missing.”

His brows furrowed. “Who’s Maria?”

“She stayed behind to lead Haven. Now she’s missing. I have to go.”

Hold on. I’m coming back.Gabby pulled on her power reserves to send the thought to Nikolas. She didn’t know how far they were from Vegas, but far enough that telepathy required an immense amount of strength.

The power for Nikolas to reach her, to establish that connection, only an Ancient like him could do it. Even the few words she just sent made her want to cave in on herself.

“Here, drink.”

Gabby took the bottle of blood from Felix and guzzled it down. The needling pain in her head lessened. In the meantime, Felix had taken some small, thin contraption, like a tiny notebook, out of his pocket and pressed a few buttons.

“Is Gabby with you?” Nikolas’ voice came from the thing in Felix’s hand.

What?

Oh.

A cellphone. Nikolas had given her one, but she’d left it in her room.

Why would she need a phone? When she could talk to any vampire telepathically?

How naïve and stupid she’d been.
