Felix gaped, open-mouthed, as the wound closed over. He’d seen countless vampire wounds heal, but this moment would stick with him forever.

She would heal.

Stupid. Of course, she would heal. She was a vampire.

She was his vampire. He sired her. His blood flowed through her veins.

Gabby threw his weapon to the ground. She cupped his face and said fervently, “I am not breakable. I can take a sword to the chest, or two, or three if needed. I know it will take you time to get used to the concept. All I am asking is, you let me help. I cannot bear to see you suffer like this.”

Felix touched his forehead to hers and pulled her close. Locked his arms around her.

She wasn’t dead. She was a vampire. She could heal.

And she’d kicked his butt. Felix almost felt sorry for her challengers in the Tournament.

What did he do to deserve such an amazing mate?

He tangled his fingers in her hair and luxuriated in its softness. “Thank you,” he whispered. “I won’t pretend the thought of you in danger doesn’t eat away at my soul until I think I might go insane. I won’t pretend I don’t want to take you to Eden and hide you there forever. The thought of anything happening to you…” He swallowed the terror. Gabby’s light stayed strong against the darkness attempting to spread. “It destroys me. You are my soul, my life, my light. I can’t lose you again.”

“You won’t. Not if you let me in.”

Her light, her warmth enveloped the darkness inside him when they kissed. The adrenaline from the fight transformed into flaming desire. His body rock hard, he pushed her up against the wooden fence and ravaged her mouth.

Hot. Inviting. As though she sensed the need driving him. She moaned, and he swallowed the decadent sound. He lifted her and spread her legs so he could grind his erection against her.

She writhed over him, her insatiable hunger matching his own. Fire licked down his spine, and he needed to be inside her more than a newly turned vampire needed blood.

No, not yet. Skin. He wanted to touch her. Wedging his thigh between her legs and still kissing her like his life depended on it, his hand traced up her hips, her waist, and sliced apart her shirt and bra. She was just as wild, her claws tearing off his clothes, digging into his back, the pain intensifying the pleasure.

A husky groan from her when he caught her breasts as they spilled free. His thumb flicked over her taut nipple. She jerked above his thigh. Her rasping breaths filled his ears when he broke the kiss and licked and nibbled his way down her jaw, her neck, shoving back the urge to feed, and to her perfect breasts.

He swept out his tongue and swirled it around her rounded bud. A sharp inhale. The heady musk of their arousal thickening around them.

“Felix, please,” she cried even as she clutched his head to her chest, her hips undulating with wanton abandon.

Too much. He hurt from the need to be inside her. Blood pounded in his skull. His body would go up in flames if he didn’t have her soon. His hands released her breasts and lifted her while his tongue laved at her hardened nub lazily. Her every gasp, every groan was music to his ears.

With one swipe of his claw, he ripped apart her pants and underwear. His mouth went dry at the wetness that greeted his probing fingers.

I need you now.He thought he would explode right there as her silky insides clamped around his finger.

Yes, yes, please.

Felix removed his finger and unzipped his pants. Holding her hips in place, he drove deep inside of her in one stroke. Their mating bond glowed as something inside him shifted. God, she was perfect. So hot and wet and welcoming. Made for him. He couldn’t stay still. Possessed by lust, he pounded into her. Heat built up and up as she writhed, her breathless pleas driving him toward the cliff. It was sheer bliss and torture at the same time.

He zoned in on her sobbing his name like a mantra. The pain of her nails digging into his back grounded him and fueled his passion. How had he ever let her go? Never again. He’d do whatever it took to keep her, even if it meant facing his deepest fears.

The shadows of doubt, of guilt, flickered, and were swept away when Gabby erupted. Stars flashed behind his eyes as her lush walls squeezed him. Everything else forgotten; he couldn’t have stopped if someone had a sword to his back. His hips thrust into her again and again until he hurtled over the edge with her. Ecstasy buffeted him in waves, and his world shattered. Over and over, he plunged into her. He couldn’t stop, not until he’d wrung out the last bit of pleasure.

He lost track of time. Did it even matter? They stood there, spent, their chests heaving, as the aftershocks coursed through them. He could stay here forever, wrapped in her arms, surrounded by her scent, and listening to her heartbeat.

But the darkness was still there, lurking in the very edges of his mind, sheltering in the corners of his soul, biding its time.

“Felix.”

At her sweet coaxing, he lifted his head. His heart lurched and his stomach dropped at the fierce devotion on her face.

“I am here. I will always be here.”
