A myriad of expressions—sorrow, hatred, determination—crossed his features. “Because it reminds me that every day is a new beginning. Though I can’t change the past, I’m in control of the future.”

Would he tell her about his past? But she didn’t dare push because she wasn’t ready to divulge her secrets and vulnerabilities either.

“Yet you’re stuck with me,” she said in a light-hearted tone.

“I’ve lived long enough to know some things are out of my control. I don’t want to or need to control everything. I simply meant every day is a new opportunity to make a difference and not allow the past to control us.”

Her stomach squirming, Olivia had to look away from his sincerity. When was the last time she truly had a heart-to-heart with anyone?

“We should head back,” she muttered and twisted herself around to land on the roof. “I’m tired.”

“As you wish.” Marek spread his wings, lifted her, and flew off the edge. Tension wound up tight inside her during the return trip. She’d been the one insisting they get to know each other. Yet, she hadn’t been ready for the depth of what he’d shared.

When they landed back in her room, Marek didn’t immediately release her, and she didn’t let go either, even after the windows closed behind them. Her body protested any distance from him and drank in his heat and scent and proximity.

“Thank you for the view,” she whispered. “You can let go now.”

“Not yet.” He carried her to the bedroom, lowered her onto the bed, and climbed atop her.

“What’re you doing?” she asked, alarmed, but also with a hitch in her breath. Her thighs parted to allow him to settle comfortably between them, and she resisted the urge to rub against him.

“I need to taste you, Olivia.” His darkly sensual voice was irresistible.

“You can’t. I’m… I’m not ready.”

“Not your blood, though I’d love that too.” A curve of his lips. “But this.”

He dipped his head and kissed her. How could a kiss be so seductive and intoxicating? She opened her lips to the trace of his tongue, and the heat of his mouth jolted through her like a lightning bolt. The sensuous slide of his tongue made her ache for it on other parts of her body.

A deep moan escaped her as his hand snuck under her shirt and splayed wide over her stomach. The touch of his skin on hers energized her, awakening her own need to explore.

She broke the kiss and pushed his shoulders. “I want to be on top.”

The wicked glint in his eyes made her flush. “As you wish.”

Effortlessly, he flipped them over. Olivia pushed herself up on her knees, careful to straddle him so she didn’t ride his erection and gazed down at his magnificent body. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen him shirtless, but it was the first time she could take her time to study him without feeling embarrassed.

Her eyes traced the thick column of his throat, to the curve of his collarbone and his powerful shoulders. Her fingers traced the line of his pectoral muscles down to his taut stomach. Hard, he was hard all over, so different from her own soft curves. She’d always thought only male magazine models had those perfect abs. Her exes had always made fun of how unrealistic those bodies were, but Marek was the exception. It was difficult to believe this belonged to her.

That he belonged to her. If she wished.

“Like what you see?” he asked, his eyes heavy-lidded.

“Hmm. I’m still debating.” No reason to stroke his ego even more.

“Anything I can do to swing things in my favor?” He skimmed his hands up her thigh, and she regretted not having his length rub against her.

“For one, behave.” She halted his hands’ advance before leaning down and kissing and licking her way along the center of his chest. Somehow, he tasted like the sun and darkness combined. His low grunt and his fingers digging into her skin egged her on. It was strange and thrilling, the need to discover his body, to learn everything that made him tick.

This, even more than last night in the conference room, made all her previous experiences seem like child’s play. Her head felt fuzzy as she nibbled and kissed down his chest, each of his reactions and slight hisses and moans driving her further to learn his likes and dislikes. Until she scooted lower to kiss his abdomen and her core rubbed against his erection, where they both groaned.

“Enough.” He yanked her up by her shoulders and kissed her with a bruising force.

His roughness didn’t bother her. Rather, she gloried in it, in his savageness, because no one had ever kissed her like his very existence depended on it. She found herself sinking into the mattress, trapped under him again. He spread her legs wide and pumped against her core.

Yes. Yes!This was what she’d been waiting for. She kissed him harder, her fingers buried in his hair, her hips writhing against him.

“Fuck.” He wrenched away, looking like a madman. “Not yet.”
