Bryan, answer me!

Marek!

Her bewildered voice, full of pain and fear, turned his insides to stone. Somehow, she’d pushed through her mental barrier and reached him telepathically. He had to get to her.

Now!

Mate! Mate in danger!his vampire screeched, going crazy.

I know!If only his fucking foot had healed.

Marek rounded the corner. As the out-of-control SUV ran a red light, an incoming freight truck from the other direction honked.

“Olivia!”

He was too late.

The truck rammed into the side of the SUV. His heart stopped. The sound of the metal crashing and grinding reverberated down to his soul. The SUV was launched back a foot into the air before it plummeted and rolled to a stop against the pole of the traffic light.

Olivia’s sharp scream spurred him to move. He scented her blood, rich and heavenly, and bit back the sudden urge to feed. His vampire had lost its mind, slashing and clawing at his insides, wailing that his mate was dead.

Olivia wasn’t dead. She couldn’t be.

If he even gave in to the possibility, the black hole would swallow him. Until he saw her lifeless body, he wouldn’t give in to the soul-eating despair.

Bryan. He sensed the fae in the car. Why wasn’t he answering?

“Die, witch.” Bryan’s words carried to him through the chaos. The dark and deadly tone sent shivers down Marek’s spine.

Green light flared. The color of Olivia’s magic. The back passenger door flew off, Bryan coming with it. Marek grunted and dug his heels in as the force of the magic hit him.

Bryan leaped to his feet. The fae’s usually easy-going, womanizing facade was gone. His blond strands were now a silvery gray, his skin darkened with a gray tinge to it. Gold fire flickered in his eyes, and his ears were now tipped into a sharp point.

“Bryan, what the fuck?” Marek placed himself between Bryan and the car.

Death emanated from the fae in his true form. “She must die.”

Without asking, Marek knew Bryan meant Olivia. “What’re you saying? She’s my mate!”

Something clattered behind him. Olivia’s weak whisper, “Marek…”

He wanted to look at her, to check on his mate. At least his vampire had calmed knowing Olivia was alive. Bryan disappeared. Fuck. The fae’s teleport ability was a pain in the ass. But Marek knew where he would be. He reached the car just as Bryan reappeared, and he slammed his shoulder into Bryan’s chest, knocking him away from Olivia.

He allowed himself a glance and gritted his teeth. Olivia lay on her side on the seat, her hair splayed out, pain evident in her brown gaze. The scent of her blood threatened to overwhelm him. Her skin was pale. He had to get her out of here and heal her.

His heart threatened to jump out of his chest. Terror made it hard to think. To fight.

Bryan vanished again. But Olivia being trapped in the limited space of the backseat worked in Marek’s favor because Bryan couldn’t get into a position for a fatal shot.

“Stop!” Marek shouted and tried to grab Bryan when he reappeared, but the fae was gone in a blink. How? How did he stop Bryan without killing him?

More Hunters incoming,Rowan warned.

You guys stop them. I’ll deal with Bryan.

You’re fighting Bryan?Rowan asked.

Looks like it,was all Marek said.
