Page 49 of Reckless Deal

The realization reverberates through me with a mixed aftertaste. Pure want, and a lot of self-loathing for allowing someone to get under my skin this much.

Her chin up, her eyes burning, she is a fucking queen.

“Remove the termination compensation from the contract,” she instructs Fatima, her eyes never leaving mine.

“Gio?” Fatima’s voice carries a warning.

“Remove it.” I speak to my counselor, but I eat Mila up with my eyes, the anticipation zapping between us. An electric current that will burn us probably, but I don’t care. I want to burn. With her.

Fatima murmurs something, her pen scratching across the paper, but it’s happening in the background while my entire being is absorbed by the woman in front of me who is doing something she doesn’t want to do. For me.

Fatima sighs. “I need you both to initial the change.”

Mila blinks and turns her attention back to the papers. We follow Fatima’s instruction to initial and sign.

My lawyer shakes her head at me, full of disapproval.

She says goodbye, but before she leaves, she turns to Mila. “This agreement is a personal modus operandi of Mr. Cassinetti, but you’re on a freelance contract with this company. Our internal policies apply to you, and we have a strict no fraternization policy in place. You should think about your work here.”

Whose lawyer is she? At the same time, I appreciate her warning Mila. Fatima glances my way again, and her eyes say she’s not done with me, but I can explain my plans to her later. Now I want to make sure Mila is okay. That our relationship didn’t suffer due to this dog-and-pony show.

Mila smiles at Fatima. “Thank you.”

Fatima shakes her head and leaves, radiating disapproval. I don’t fucking care.

“Thank you,” I say as soon as the door closes.

Mila stands up, her eyes narrowed. “A bet is a bet. Did you think of thisparticularfavor from the beginning?”

I nod and she shakes her head.

I adjust my cufflinks. “I didn’t think owing me a favor would be enough for you to agree to this.”

“Oh, so I should have resisted more?” Her eyes glisten with mischief.

“Or you can just do as I say,” I say darkly and her breath hitches, but she smiles.

“You’re my boss after all,” she says playfully, her eyes bright with arousal, but as soon as the words are out, her face falls.

“Yeah, about that. The company is closed till January second. We’ll keep this a secret and deal with the rest afterward.”

She nods, thinking.

“I’m sorry, Princess. Regretting it already?”

We stand across from each other, the air filled with anticipation, a dash of regret, and anything but normal. I want to remove the short distance and bend her over my desk, but… I might have lost my head for this woman, but the last three years tested my restraints enough to refrain.

That doesn’t mean my cock is on board. How do I get a semi just being in a room with her? No fucking self-control.

“Winesty?” Mila takes two steps and I mirror her action. Her scent washes over me, and if lavender ever had calming properties, they are lost on me.

I want to inhale her, consume her, devour her.

We are only a foot from each other, but I’m painfully aware we’re in my office. There are cameras—because when the sharks snapped their jaws, I lost the little privacy I used to have here—and we can’t be caught. I might have gotten her to sign the NDA, but I can’t, in the span of half an hour, ask her to give up her job.

That bridge we cross after the date.

“Winesty.” I nod, a smile tugging at my lips.
