I’m downstairs

For a man who spends so much time on his phone, his mobile etiquette is severely lacking, but then he isn’t warm in person. I grin at his message though, and that should concern me.Pull it together, Mila.

I’m not packed yet. Give me five.

You don’t need anything. Get down here now.

Oh, someone is bossy.

I need nothing for a weekend? Where are we going?

My phone rings immediately.

“Mila,” Gio growls without a preamble. “Get your ass here right now. Bring your phone and your passport. You need nothing else.”

“But—”

He hangs up.

I shake my head, not even daring to analyze why his bossiness turns me on. I look up to find Annie mesmerized by the sight in front of her.

Ron is squatting by Aidan who is explaining something to him. This, by itself, is outlandish, as Aidan barely speaks to people he knows, let alone strangers.

“Okay then, Ron, I guess I’ll let you discuss Annie’s needs with her.” I nod at my sister, and Ron’s eyes widen with understanding.

I rush to peek at Ellery, sleeping in her cot, and I hug Aidan.

At the door, equipped with my phone, passport and basic toiletries in my purse, I wrap my arms around Annie.

“Oh my God,” she whispers into my ear.

“Do you want me to send him away?” I whisper back, concern creeping in.

“Don’t you dare.” She pulls away and glares at me.

I laugh. “See you soon.”

As I push the front door of my building open, I get my second shock of the day.

Gio leans against a red Lamborghini, his legs crossed at his ankles. His leisurely stance emits pure masculinity. He’s wearing jeans—jeans!—and a short navy blue cashmere coat, the most casual I’ve ever seen him. He might bedressed down, but the power floats around him naturally. No one would ever doubt he’s a CEO.

He looks up and slides the phone into his pocket. His eyes crinkle, with a smile ghosting his face. Licking his upper teeth, he lets his hooded eyes devour me. Dark brown abyss.

His chin sports a five o’clock shadow, another first for him. I got glimpses of a relaxed Gio before, but nothing could have prepared me for this version.

My knees go weak and I stop, savoring the sight of him, overcome with trepidation. Or full-blown fear. I’m a Princess to him, but there is no doubt he’s the king. God help me.

“Hi.” He pushes off the car.

“Hi.” I smile at him, and equally for me. To give myself confidence. “Nice ride.”

He shrugs. “That she is. Only appropriate, given my special cargo today.” His gaze rivals any predator’s in nature, sending delicious shivers up my spine and spreading hot liquid in my core. “Ready?”

I don’t think I am. I don’t think I could ever be ready for this level of desire. Two minutes into this date and I’m ready to surrender. We stare at each other. Him dragging a languid, hot gaze down my body.

Me? I’m utterly at his mercy. I don’t think I can be saved, but what’s worse—I don’t want to be.

I’m sure he can see my thoughts, because he smirks. “Let’s go.”
