They are possessive, all-consuming, and I don’t mind any of it. Somehow, I know I won’t survive resisting, and I probably won’t survive surrendering.

But as the trail of his kisses down my neck leaves goosebumps on my skin and ignites an inferno in my core, I know I can’t stop anymore. The only way to take my next breath is to let this man guide me to it.

Broken walls, shattered pretenses, cracked masks and all.

Gio pulls away and studies me with a piercing look. I don’t know what he sees, but his gaze is softer than I’ve ever seen, and yet somehow harder, as if an internal war was brewing within him. I feel I’m at the center of that battle, but I have no idea if I’m pointing the gun or waving the white flag.

“We should eat our dinner.”

I blink a few times. “What? I’m not hungry.”

Gio chuckles and the cloud disappears from his face. “Of course you’re not. You’re going to fight me over every meal, aren’t you?”

“Are you going to push a protein bar on me?” I bite my lip, leaving the strange darkness behind.

A shadow erases his smile. The predator is back. The glare hits me right in my center. “I can think of better things to thrust into that pretty mouth of yours.” The timbre of his voice reverberates every single fiber in my taut body.

“Promises,” I breathe.

And then I scream.

Chapter16

Mila

My scream is the only reaction I manage as Gio jumps up and hoists me over his shoulder. “What are you doing?”

He slaps me and I squeal and—

Splash!

I inhale before the water swallows me. Bastard. The buoyancy propels me back up, and I flail my arms before I finally gain the grace to float. I dip my head backward to tame my hair.

Wiping my face, I look up just as a wave sloshes over me, almost taking me back under. He jumped in after me.

The brief annoyance with his silly antics dissipates, because the playfulness of the moment squeezes at my heart. This side of the growling boss, always annoyed and short with people, is fun and carefree.

And it’s not the behavior that swells inside my chest, it’s the fact he chose me to see it. To be a part of it.

Gio reemerges in front of me, wrapping his arms around me, fusing his lips with mine. The water stills around us. He discarded his shirt and pants. I wish I could admire his almost naked body.

I wrap my legs around his waist, and he digs his fingers into my behind, supporting me, but also claiming me inch by inch. Oh, and I’m more than willing to give it to him.

My short, yellow summer dress clings to me, an annoying barrier between us. I need to feel him completely, his velvety skin against mine. I start yanking at my dress and Gio chuckles.

“My beautiful Princess is needy. Desperate,” he rasps, approval quivering through his tone. “Let me help you.” He grips the neckline, rips the dress in two, and pushes it off my shoulders.

I gasp and laugh. Leaning back with my arms stretched, I let the water take the remains of the fabric.

Sunset colors the sky in all the shades of orange. The air is warm, but my nipples react anyway, pebbling with need.

Sun-kissed. Gio-kissed. Completely blissed.

“You’re perfect,” he says. I float as Gio runs his hand between my breasts, down my navel into the waistband of my underwear. “Fucking perfect.” He leans in and kisses my belly button.

His words lick at my center, liquid heat and tantalizing desire. His cock twitches against my core, and I realize he is completely naked.

He lets go of my behind. The water and my legs around him hold me as I coast. I want to see his face, but I love how without watching him, every touch, every kiss, every move is a surprise.
