A laugh broke free from my throat. One thing about Aaron, he didn’t know when to shut up. Another thing about him, he was as gutsy as he was a jerk. “I found out you’d been cheating on me and got engaged to another woman on the day of my mother’s death anniversary. Tell me, Aaron, what did you expect?”

Despite the music seeping through the speakers, a long palpable silence hung between us.

“See, I said I’m sorry. What else do you expect from me?” He strode to the table, picked up my handbag, and grabbed my hand. “Now fucking go home and stop making an idiot of yourself.”

“What?” I’m making an idiot of myself?” My attempts to wrestle free from his grip were useless. He was way too strong. “Leave me alone, Aaron. Let me go!”

He leaned in. His body collided with me, pushing me back against the edge of the bar table. “Better behave, Giselle. People are watching.”

“You should have thought of that before you hurt me.”

“I didn’t, and there’s nothing I can do now.” He moved away and started to pull me along with him while I screamed, scratched, and tried to free myself to no avail.

“What do you think you are doing?” a voice asked. It was deep, fierce, and enough to make my stomach flip.

I didn’t see his face, but I noticed how tall and large his shoulders were in his black suit as he prowled towards us.

“Mind your business, man,” Aaron said, glaring at him with disdain. “This is between me and my girl.”’

The man looked at me. “Are you his girl?”

I remained mute for a minute. It must’ve been the alcohol messing with me because all I could think of was how handsome he was.

His eyes were darker than a pitch, dark clouds on a stormy night. Mysterious and daring. The viper, skull, and rose tattoos on his arms didn’t help matters.

Despite the neon light, his dark eyes pierced through mine, and he was so fucking handsome I forgot how to breathe as I looked at him. His jaws were razor-sharp, a diamond stud earring glinting off the side of his head, just below his dark hair.

There’s no way he is human.

“Talk, bitch.”

I was pulled out of my daydream by Aaron’s venom. “I’m not your girlfriend.”

Aaron’s eyes reddened, but before he could react to me, the handsome guy grabbed his other hand and pulled it behind him. “Let the lady go.”

Aaron whimpered and released my hand. “Fuck, man. I’ve let her go, okay? Get your hands off me.’

“One more thing,” the handsome purred, his deep voice waltzing electricity down my spine. “I don’t give a shit if she’s your wife, you shouldn’t be around a woman if you can’t treat her right.” He gave Aaron’s hand one final twist before pushing him towards one of the security guys standing a few feet away from us.

I didn’t realize I’d been holding my breath until the security guard led Aaron out of the club. I inhaled deeply, my gaze fogged, and the world started to spin. I made to walk back to my stool by the bar but lost my footing, and just as I was about to hit the ground, strong, inked arms snaked around my waist, and my heart dropped when I saw who it belonged to.

The handsome stranger was so close to me that I could reach up and kiss him if I wanted to.

Chapter 2 - Nikolai

Her brown eyes bulged, her mascara rough beneath thick, dark lashes as if she’d been crying for hours. With the way we were positioned—she was underneath me as I tried to keep her from falling—the fragrance of her perfume found its way to my nose.

She smelled like fresh lavender. Sweet and delectable.

She was tense from my touch, and her heartbeat was somehow louder than the music blaring from the speakers.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” She moved away from me and tucked strands of long, dark, curly hair behind her ears.

I regarded her carefully, taking in how thin and short she was. Her skirt was slightly bigger and so was the rumpled white shirt she had on, but I could still mark out the line of her curves and the swell of her breasts.

This woman wasn’t my type. Not because she wasn’t beautiful. She was perfect. Her breasts were the right size, and she had an ass any man would love to spank from behind. I just didn’t like that she was nervous around me.

I’d mastered the act of reading body language, and this woman seemed too naïve and innocent. I didn’t like naïve. I hated innocent more.
