It caused the fabric to stick to my skin in the most uncomfortable ways.

“Oh shit, Kohl. I’msosorry—”

“It’s okay,” I said quickly, not wanting to ruin the moment. “You stay here, I’ll go clean up in the bathroom.”

Before waiting for her confirmation, I high-tailed it toward the guest bathroom. By some miracle, it was empty.

Goddamn it, why does the world just have it out for me and Vic?

I cursed under my breath as I tore the shirt off, threw it in the sink, and doused it with water. My skin had a sticky film over it that caused me to shudder.

Then, as if things couldn’t get worse, there was a knock at the door.

“Just a minute!” I yelled, not even bothering to conceal my frustration.

“It’s me,” Vic said from the other door. “I snagged a shirt from one of the bedrooms, let me in.”

I stilled, my eyes coming to look at myself in the mirror.

My hair was disheveled from her hands running through it. My lips were puffy from the kiss. My gaze traveled down to my bare chest, the two almost identical scars feeling far too dark in the bathroom light.

Alone. In a bathroom.

I didn’t let the panic consume me. Instead, I turned right to the door, yanked it open, and pulled Vic in.

“Thanks,” I said, giving her a smile. “Sorry, I thought you were someone trying to steal the bathroom from me.”

She gave me a smile that caused my chest to warm and handed me a dark gray shirt. “I think it’s her dad’s.”

I shrugged and placed it on the counter so I could continue to clean myself up.

“It’ll do,” I said and turned back to the sink. I grabbed one of the hand towels, wet it, and wiped it across the skin of my chest.

The weight of her gaze on me was hard to ignore. So was her reflection as she stared at me through the bathroom mirror.

There was one time when I caught her looking at me like that. I had been coming out of the shower only to run into her without any bottoms on.

The memory caused my entire body to heat.

“If I didn’t know any better…” I trailed, reaching across my side to get my back. “That look tells me you did this on purpose to get me alone.”

The smile that spread across her face caused my heart to skip a beat.

“And if I did?” she asked, taking a step forward.

I turned back toward her, looking down at her as she closed the space between us.

“I would ask why,” I murmured. “I would ask why here and why now.”

“Because it’s a goodbye,” she said. “And I have been holding both of us back for far too long. Let me indulge a little, won’t you?”

She leaned forward, her mouth level with my nipple. Her pink tongue darted out to swipe against it.

I couldn’t conceal my whine. Her eyes lit up at the noise.

“Do you want that, Kohl?” she asked, her lips tilting. “To indulge a little with me?”

She stood on her tiptoes once again, but this time I was faster. I pulled her to me and forced her lips to mine.
