Victoria stood and motioned to her skirt. Her friends were sitting on either side of her, both of them leaning closer to her.

One of them reached out and tugged on her skirt, causing all the girls to grin.

What were they doing?

“See?” she said with a smirk. “This one ismuchheavier and hopefully won’t blow up around my waist as much when I’m lifted.”

One of the girls—Jenna, I think—laughed. I recognized her from my English class.

“I don’t think it will stop the jocks from catcalling you or trying to peek up your skirt,” she said.

“Even if you have the safety shorts on,” the other girl commented with a small noise of disgust.

Vic opened her mouth to say something, but she was cut off by a boy in a football uniform sprinting across the quad and heading straight for their table.

“Vic, save me!” he cried, using the blonde as a shield.

Vic whipped her head around, trying to get a glance at the man but failing as he stayed planted behind her. His hands gripped her arms, locking her in place.

It wasn’t long before another angry cheerleader came waving her fist at him, her normally all-white cheer uniform stained bright red. From this distance, I couldn’t tell if it was blood or something else.

Vic gasped as she was jerked to the side by the footballer.

A burst of annoyance shot through me.

Why the fuck would she let him push her around like that?

She and her friends continued to joke around, but I couldn’t stop looking at how he manhandled her. Even after the cheerleader was pacified, the boy kept his hand on her lower back without any hesitation.

Like it belonged there.

There was something else stirring in my stomach. Something bitter. A feeling that popped up way too many times when I saw her with Dylan.

My hands itched to touch her skin just like he had. To come up behind her, put my hand on her back, and whisper in her ear. For her to lean into me and laugh the way she did with the rest of the popular crowd.

Wait, am I—

I turned away from the group, embarrassment hitting me like a slap to the face.

What was I on? Getting jealous because of some stupid jock? Of my brother?

It was a fuckingjoke.

Before Dylan brought her home, I’d seen her plenty of times. Of course I had, we’d been in the same schools since pre-K. But never had I felt…jealousof the men around her.

Shame made my face hot as I headed back into the school, but I already knew I was fucked. Victoria had planted a seed in my mind, and it was growing, slowly causing all my thoughts to revolve around her.

My crush was quickly becoming anobsession.

And I wasn’t interested in stopping it.

Vic

Can’t I get a break from this psycho?

Aplan was a plan.

Jenna’s… death—it wouldn’t change that.
